Default What to do with my batteries over winter

Well unfortunately, winter has hit I need to store my batteries "safely" so no damage happens. I have a hi-tec ultima x2 charger and im wondering what to do with my batteries if i wont be flying for at least a few months.

You should be able to do a storage charge of about 3.85V on that charger. After the storage charge, store them in a stable temperature environment in something that would contain a fire (cashbox, etc). Some people also put them in the refrigerator too.

I drop them down to storage voltage, 3.85 volts per cell, put them in a zip lock baggie and put them in the vegetable drawer in my fridge. Never had a problem.

If your charger has a storage function, it will automatically discharge or charge them to approximately 3.85 volts per cell.

You can use a volt meter to check the pack voltage if your charger doesn't have the storage function.

I'd also check the voltage with an individual cell checker every month or so just to make sure no cell drops below 3.7, at which time I'd do another storage charge if so. If you don't have a cell checker you could just use your charger and perform storage again.

I wouldn't. Having fully charged batteries sit around is generally frowned on. In some cases, it can cause puffing. It did to one of my 1 cell batteries.

Never never totally discharge a lipo battery. If you let it go below 3 volt it will cause permanent potentially dangerous damage to the battery.

Best follow the advice all the other guys have posted earlier. Storage charge to 3.85 volts per cell and store in a cool area that doesn't fluctuate too much in temperature.

Check the packs every few weeks to make sure they don't drop there storage voltage levels.

Another strategy is just keep flying. I flew sunday and it was 24F. Jumped in the truck between flights. Also getting comfortable wearing thin shooting gloves.

you just need to keep the core finger temperature up. Average flight is 5-6 minutes, warm em up between flights. You also have to get your battery change procedure down so you can do it quick!!

I've found with no warmth protection after about 3 mins flight you start going numb. So I do "storage charge" flights when it's cold and stop when battery about 3.8

I try to fly when I can during cold weather using fingerless gloves. So far it's been OK where I live. But check this out:
