Beautiful bird rick. Thanks for sharing your build info. Looking forward to going through your build again when I do mine... someday. Much appreciated.

noob question....what is ESD?
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden and momentary electric current that flows between two objects at different electrical potentials. The term is usually used in the electronics and other industries to describe momentary unwanted currents that may cause damage to electronic equipment.

Read that link I provided to see how it affects the 500.

Yea.... I wouldnt want to crash that and spend 3 weeks fixing all the mods

Reminds me of years ago when you built a RC Airplane from a "kit" box of sticks. Now do that with a SCALE airplane from a box of sticks! 6 months to build it and detail it and when you crash you just CRY.... I built ONE scale airplane from a kit box of sticks and when it crashed I never did another....

My Trex450 is still flying with a crappy looking crashed and repaired canopy... WHY? Seems like every time I put a new on on I crash.... Why tempt fate

LOL. Just kidding. Everything is actually designed to make rebuilding easy other than the Faraday cage part which I probably wouldn't rebuild.

Rdlohr,

I think I am going to do my first flight tomorrow with T-rex 500, it took me about 2.5 months to finally finish it (time just did not allow...) but the good thing is I applied many mods from different post in here, and of course I did use your mod for the tail boom (the copper tape, scraping the paint ,.....). I also added my own Canopy mod to accomedate a FP 3300mah Lipo , fits with no problem and perfectly balanced !!!

All I need to do get some advice on how to setup the "Fail safe" option in X9303 in case ......

Anyway thanks for the helpfull posts and pics.

Hrair

Thanks for

Thats great. Glad I could help! You're gonna love it!

Someone else will have to help with the X9303 since I have no experience there. If you don't get input here, just start a thread and I'm sure someone will jump in.

Hey Rick a couple of questions..

First can you confirm for me that on the boom stop mod you grind the notch down that prevents the boom from rotating? (and on the opposite side as well) That leaves the boom stop on the top and bottom and not on the sides, correct?

Also when grounding the boom block did you only apply copper foil to one side or both? The way I see as long as the boom is grounded to the pulley bearings on on side all is well but can you confirm that?

BTW I am using one of your gyro mounts, nice job!

I ground the notch down half way so there was still enough to keep the boom from turning and yes there is enough of the end stop left on the top and bottom. I view the mod to keep the belt from hitting as optional. If you defeat the VDG, all should be well. That means grounding the pulleys together through the boom. Some would argue you only need to do the tail end but I preferred both.

Theoretically, you only need to complete the circuit so one side would work. However, since the circuit is completed through a bearing, its an intermittent connection. Since you are just trying to drain off the voltage buildup over time, that should be OK, but its easy enough to do both sides at once so I did. (I'm referring to both bearings, not both sides of the boom block)

Glad you like my gyro mount! I've got all good feedback so far from customers.

Good Luck,

Rick

LOL. Thanks man! The on line vendors are scowling at me. Something tells me they are getting plenty of business from us freaks anyway!
