Programmer box is usefull on the field. If bringing a notebook to the field is not possible, better get a programmer box. In my case, I don't need to do a lot of setup, so I just bring a notebook to the field. With plenty of battery and time, just need 1 day to set it up.

Default Tarot ZYX, ZYX-S & CopterX 3X-1000 Advanced Tuning and Troubleshooting Guide

Help w/zyx set up. I have successfully set up two 450 with zyx gyros. I recommended the zyx to my fly buddy that was having problems with a GPX.
He has the exact configuration than one of my helis, same tx and Rx (Walkera 2801).
The servos move very slow and not the way they should. If we move the aileron stick the elevator and one of the right elevator servo moves. With aileron stick input all servos move. If we move throttle stick the servos move very slow.
All wire connections are exactly as mine, so they are ok.

We attempted to use my computer and my configuration file that works well in my heli to configure his zyx but it did not work either.

Any ideas????

Sometimes a reset to factory defaults cures weirdness like this. Use the stick and lights method, not the pc software.

You might also want to try flashing the firmware again.
Check the servo setup (analog/digital)

Are all the servos the same as yours?

His are align 410 and mines are 415. The same for all practical purpose.

Hi Dr.M, finally got my raptor titan completed except mounting the zyx-s unit..Went to a site and downloaded a program and with a usb and cable did the programming...What should I pay attention to on my first flight or hover,I did read your first post of preflight checks. One thing I did do is pick light 3d instead of beginner maybe not a good idea since Im new to fbl.....Thanks Darrell

Mild 3D is a better place to start than Beginner. Drop your main gains to 25 and go test. If all goes well, follow the tuning guide on the first page.

Don't forget the preflight checks for comp direction and stick inputs! All axes!

Good luck and have fun.

Hey evryone, I just did a FBL conversion with the ZYX-S and I'm having this really weird issue. I test hovered it about three times and all was fine. Then went to do another and notice when I started to spin up it started to randomly bob the pitch negative. Anyone ever have this problem? I have firmware 3.50 on it. Maybe a factory default reset?

You might have a loose cable/connector somewhere, vibes, or static.

In the Maiden flight section, what did you mean by "few stabs of rudder stick" and "quick stabs of cyclic stick" ?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Quickly move the stick in one direction and return to center. As opposed to a smooth, controlled input you would do during normal flight, here you're looking to quickly and aggressively move the stick to the extreme and return to center as fast as possible. Be precise, though. Don't just release the stick and allow it to spring back to center, as that will create small oscillations which will confuse the test.

Thank you for the explanation.

Mr. M...

I'm just starting to go through your tuning tips and have a question. In your first steps you are talking about setting the main gain on tail and cyclic. My question is how much wobble am I looking for when cyclic gain is too high? I know when I've hit too much tail gain because the tail will wag pretty quickly and quite a few degrees either way... its not subtle. Is the wobble that I'm looking for when increasing the cyclic gain just as obvious?

Thanks for all the help you have given us all.

Larry

Cyclic wobble can be a subtle flutter if your gain is just a bit high and can be violent enough to break the rotor apart (aka the wobble of death or WOD) when your gain is way too high. It's never gonna be as fast as the tail, though. The tail can oscillate 10Hz+ when the gain is high enough, whereas the main rotor with its large mass is generally in the 2-4Hz range. On the other hand, low frequency oscillations in the main rotor (~1Hz) are generally caused by an imbalance in the PID settings, usually P too low and I too high.

If you follow the tuning guide, you'll see just a small wobble in the rotor mast in the hover, or when descending in FF with the rotor disk unloaded, when you've just exceeded the optimum gain setting.

Default Setting Tail pitch in Rate Mode

Dr.M,

You guide mentioned to set the correct amount of tail pitch in rate mode during hover.

1) What mode should I use for this setup - normal, IU1 or IU2 ?
2) If I setup the tail pitch in normal, heli will "spin" again in IU1 or IU2. Will this be a problem ?

Thanks,

Mr. M

one more question... What is the typical range for the cyclic gain setting?
