Default Phantom 2 problems, distance (DJI Data link 2.4G) and speed:

Hi All.

I’ve been flying a Phantom for about a year now problem free, no crashes, but all of a sudden I have some problems creeping in.

My 2.4G DJI data link only connects to the GS if within 2 meters and then as the Phantom flies away or takes off she disconnects to the GS. I basically can’t use the DJI Data link, but don’t know why? Painful! I’ve updated all firmware but still the problem persists. This started about two weeks ago… I’ve move antenna and tried all sorts of things but I feel I’m just wasting my time..?

The phantom is able to sly at about 20 m/s but I’m only achieving 13- 16 m/s. What adjustments can I do to improve this?

I’m flying a basic good condition Phantom 2+ with DJI Data link 2.4G as the only add on. The Phantom is light and the air unit (data Link) is not affecting any air flow at all.

I have run out of ideas on how to fix the Data link!

Thanks for the help.

Is the battery in he wifi extender fully charged?

Is there more 2.4 interference lately, for instance maybe a new wireless router installed nearby?

There has been more sunspot activity lately, which can interfere with communications, but it should be dissipated by now.

Hi, thanks for the reply! The standard setup works quite well (WiFi charged), about 350 meters but I did go a bit further with the 2.4G DJI data link. This uses 2.4 to the GS station equipped with an iPad. I'm doing a lot of crime prevention on a game farm and hence need the distance... I think I must just order a new data link...?

I also can get more than 9 - 12 meter per second. The Phantom 2 is spec'ed to do up to 20 meters a second....?

In GPS mode or atti mode? It flies faster in atti mode...

In my personal opinion, you need a hex. A scratch built F550 or a frame of that size so you can go pretty fast and stay in the air longer than a Phantom can. Also you can get longer range video and data systems. And you can carry a BIGGER battery.

I personally don't think the Phantom series of quads is suited to what you want to do with it.

If you have ever powerd up your data link without an antenna you may have burnt up the data links transmitter.

I also own a DJI Phantom 2 and a data link. Every time I click go on the Ground Station software the GPS signal is lost and I can't see where the drone is on the monitor (only on the FPV). The drone flies to all the way-points and then I have to manually land it.
