Thanks, I'll give it a try with the PL6. Do you have the positive wire coming out the second port i.e right next to the negative or on the next one along? It's quite hard to be sure on your photo but the one on hobby king looks like the 3rd port.

Thanks

I can confirm that using the same method as chadew, I can charge the backup guard using my PL6 and EP buddy parallel board.

Default SOLUTION TO CHARGE SCORPION BACKUP GUARD

Hi friends! I just acquire the famous scorpion backup guard and I had the same problem as many of you: how to load solely by this small sheet battery balancer, the solution is simple for those who kept their small helis charger FP style T2M Spark 435 and it works great! Arise therefore these small chargers and your problems are solved

Cheers !

Just picked up four of these. Will run every heli with one now. Seems like very cheap insurance.

The manual says rated ten amps, but I been told by western robotics a spade connecter is only rated to 5 amps ..? Can this be used as a good buffer pack than ?

Less usefull unless your running a bec, but still a backup if you forget to charge or somethings comes unplugged

Excellent idea. Thanks man. I have a couple of these. Forgot that I can use them instead of making up customer charging cables.

Was having brown out issues when running a WR BEC at 8.4V with Align 700H HV servos (Savox). With the backup guard installed the problems are gone.

Installing 3 more backup guards now.

Only wish:
-Auto on feature. Not loving another step. Manual off of course.
-Should use clear heatshrink so we can see the LED.

I would just like to say "hats off" to Scorp. for effeciently rounding out a turn key electronics setup!

That is to say... one stop shopping for motor, esc, and emergency backup.

WAY TO GO!

Well, I just picked up a scorpion guard myself. I built a charge lead as some of you as well and got to wondering about this...
I guess I'm trying to decrease my workload as much as possible and wondering if there is any real NEED to keep this battery fully charged and leave it closer to storage voltage!?
I'm wondering this because, if it is fully charged, and doesn't ever get used(being a backup!) then it's not really healthy for the little 2s! But even at 60% there should be plenty of live left for a successful recovery in case of a bec failure!

Any Opinions?

That's clever. iCharger basically has two modes while balance charging: 1) (Charge) Push current through main lead or 2) (Balance) Through the balance leads, discharge high cell(s) and use that current to charge low cells.

As I understand its function, that setup should work fine. During normal charge it will send equal current through both balance leads. While balancing, it sends no current through the main lead, so each cell will get +ve or -ve current thru its balance lead accordingly.

EDIT:

I just looked at that setup again. Unless I'm mistaken, the respective cells on each balance port are wired in parallel, but within a given port, the cells are not connected except by sharing a common ground. However, if you say the iCharger shows the correct voltage (8.4V fully charged) on the main lead then I must be missing something.

It's a 500mAh pack. If you keep it charged to 60%, that's 300mAh. You don't want to run it lower than 150mAh (per the manual) so that leaves 150mAh usable capacity. I would think even a HV 700 could be safely auto'd without expending anywhere near that, but I'm not an EE.

So between charging and discharging it every day or just keeping it at a storage charge, it would make sense to me to go with the latter. However, you'll still need to charge it back up to storage level every time it engages.

The bad part about this component seems to be that the battery is not serviceable. Would seem feasible to provide a plug-and-play version where you provide your own LiPo (or LiFe?) pack.

I'm basing my amp usage from when I was flying direct 2s. With my futaba brushless servos a 5min 3d flight on my ballistic uses about 120-130mah, so at 5v that will be be more, but I still think it should be fine for at least a safe auto, ad maybe even a full flight. Worst case the $25 backup guard is toasted, but the Heli is saved!

just used mine today for the first time......balanced it at .10amps took an hour.

using this on Gaui X5 with the NEW YGE 90LV internal BEC 6amps 12 peak.

flew four times. removed.

voltage dropped from 8.4 to 8.3.....which is prolly just where it rested at after charging.

im sold.

getting one more of these for my compass 7HV which has a WR Herc Super BEC.

no point in getting one for my Goblin it runs direct 2s.

but then again it would be nice if something were to come unplugged.

shit i better get 2 more
