Default Foam for patching up with ?

Some of my planks have chunks of foam missing and I would like to get a hold of some foam to patch them up.

Can anybody suggests where I can get some blocks and sheets of foam for patching our foamies with ? or what can I use ?

You could try polystyrene beads and clear Gorilla Glue. That would allow the gouges to be completely filled.

I know univfoam.com has polystyrene beads that would work. I also think that if you cut a foam block and cover it with that it might work.

I started to use Wonderfill.

Its a product by Deluxe Materials and so far it seems to be doing the job just nicely !

Its a bit of a pain to apply but once its dry, its good stuff and can be shaped / sanded when dry.

The old boy at the field turned me on to Gorilla glue. It expands after you apply it and after about an hour or so you can cut it with a razor knife real easy. It's damn near like a foam weld. I've found after I cut it I can sand it then rub some Weld Bond over it and it fills all the little holes. Then you can paint to match. It's amazingly strong. I highly recommend it.

I ordered some foam putty. It's intended for scene work (e.g. model train layouts), but I'm going to see how it does patching my P-51's canopy, which has a small chunk of foam missing.

Alan

Can you let me know how you get on with the Foam Putty please.

As I mentioned above I now use the Deluxe Wonderfill but find it not so easy to apply unless you have damp fingers ! But having said that, its brilliant for filling all the nicks n dings.
