You may need to shim the head to get it into the center and keep it there
I used to land with vibes - pull on one blade grip - take off and she was smooth as

When I built mine the feathering shaft was too long and it left a gap between the blade grip spacer and the rubber grommit in the head block. I ground it down a little bit at a time untill I got rid of the gap just as the bolt got tight in the spindle. Never had any vibration in the heli from day one. I would have thought with the overall quality of the Lepton that I wouldn't have to do this but glad I did.
I would give a hard pull on one of the main blades and see if the same grip you pulled on has a bit of movement (in and out) afterwards. If so you could either shim the head or gring the feathering shaft to take up the play. Hope this helps.

Did you put any lube on the dampners when you installed the spindle? I used some DC-4, it's a aviation wiring lube on mine.

I got thinking about your vibration last night. When I was building my Lepton, my flybar cage had issues. With the cage put together and the flybar through it, it had side to side movement between the flybar cage and flybar arm. I had to squeeze the end caps together real hard and tighten the studs down pretty tight against the flybar in order to take out the slop. I also had issues with a pendulum vibration but that was caused by too low of a head speed. Also, have you hit anything with the tail rotor? I hit some rocks on landing one day and bent my tail rotor shaft. You may want to check that.

I noticed my head was a little loose so I started looking around for some shim washers to tighten it up. So far the only option I've found is from McMaster-Carr and are 5mm ID x 10mm OD and come in varying thicknesses from 0.1mm to 1mm in a box of 50 for about $7. While these sound perfect I'm not sure what to do with the other 40 or so.

Well... after looking around I decided to order some shim washers. I may end up selling the extras on here if anyone is interested.

Yeh pretty steep but it gets rid of heaps of slop, there's an inner plastic looking lining, maybe Delrin. Anyhow wouldnt help with the uneven grips etc good luck...

Ya... that picture really leaves something to be desired. I suppose the seller has never heard of "macro mode". Delrin wouldn't be a very good choice imo. I can't remember what it's called but there is a version of nylon that is infused with molybdenum I believe and is self lubricating.

Well, the shim washers showed up today. I ordered the 5mm x 10mm x 0.2mm ones and ended up with 2 on each side of the head. I put them between the divider inside the blade grip and the thrust bearing. So, if you want to tighten up your head either order the 0.4mm ones or PM me and I might just mail you a few since I now have ~40 extras.

Hi guys! I am fairly new to rc helicopters (since last year) and I am flying a Lepton. I have a vibration problem (after a crash) but not necessarily in the tail.
The vibration is there even without the main blades and at minimum head speed (at min throttle). If you spin up higher it continues and at hover you can see it as a "buzz" in the tail. It is not so significant that it makes the heli problematic but I do want to have a perfect setup. I have shimed the head, spindle is spot on, everything balanced, tail tracks perfect but it is still there. Any ideas? |

A buzz in the tail fin? Bent tail hub or tail output shaft

So the vibration at min throttle is not important? and I should be looking at the hover revs vibration in the tail?

In my mind min throttle is zero - what do you mean?
From your description the vibration is there across a large RPM range - so it looks like something is bent, just need to find it
