Jeeze that is old and dated. You can get a great tail gyro used for like $25-40 these days, SPEND IT.

Yeah, saw a bit of head nod on take off.. a sign of low head speed. Still very underpowered.
It's just too under powered. That gyro needs to go as well.
The low power, the gyro, are working against you here.
A heli is built as a system. Not a frame, a motor, a battery... but a system.
You need to put together a system that will give the airframe what it needs to reach its designed characteristics.
Its flying.. but barely, and for a new flyer, the low power, and that gyro are working against you. I'd even say the ESC, under normal operating circumstances.. might not be ideal either.
You already know you need a battery. For that motor, a 6S.
You need a decent HH gyro. I'm partial to Spartans....but any decent HH gyro will do. Flying underpowered also isnt very good for your other parts as well. Its taxing on the ESC.
I have two cheap gyro's.. an HK401B ( futaba 401 clone ) and a Turnigy 302 ( A Telebee clone ) ... I'll give you one of them if you want.. PM me your address and I'll mail it out. I've never flown either, they were spares that I never needed. Not sure which is the better one, but your welcome to either one.
Point is...your heli needs things it was designed for..
Be careful...practice, and try to start getting the things you need otherwise, you could cause more harm that will sink you even further into the money pit to make it right.
This definitly one of those hobbies that you can be creative in your aircraft, but need to be within the crafts preferred characteristics..mistakes cost money...

We have all been there. When you are just getting into the hobby it can be a little spendy......Well it still is.But any way since your on a budget in all honesty I would look at the specs with what align has in there combo deals and just purchase the parts off ebay.Trexs are a dime a dozen and parts are plentafull and guys are allways upgrading there parts to more top notch performance parts and selling off the factory stuff.Gyro and tail servo are one of the most important parts you dont want to skimp on.You can get a futaba heading hold gy 401 pretty cheap and its a solid gyro. You can also find ok batteries to get you in the air but must ballance charge at c rating but its enouph to get you going and then when you get the experience and catch the bug the hobby stores got a new addict

gy48 gyro would be fine for him .. cheap 20 bucks ..

that thing needs battery big time tho .. 5s is smallest
and as Blayd said headspeed and others said it . but a 6s will give u headspeed ..

you are only teaching yourself bad habits flyin it this way .. i would wait ..

20 bucks for gyro and like what 35 or 50 for a mid range 6s no need to go nuts on a $100 pack as you not needing it yet..
