Default BLS251SB -- 6V? Regulator?

I bought a BLS251SB tail servo and want to connect it to either a mini-vbar or msh brain/ikon. Or even use it with one of my FB bird's spartan quark tail gyro.

According to some posts here, you can run it on 6 V from a BEC or a 4 cell NiMH battery.

However, according to the information from Futaba, this servo is rated for 4.8 V.

If I run a 6V or even an HV setup (8.4 V) everywhere else in my system, do I need something like the rather expensive PS-10 regulator:

http://www.futabarc.com/accessories/futm0961.html

it will step down 6-12.6 V down to 5.2 V and handle 7A continuous (12 A surge for 30 sec).

How does this servo compare to the MKS DS760? I know the specs are better for the DS760, but it isn't brushless, etc.

Anytime you run higher than recommended voltage you are taking a risk of burnout. It might work for a while but the life will be shorter.

When I was running that servo I used a 5v BEC and never had any problems. 5.2v should be ok.

You can always call Futaba Tech Support and see what they say.

Use a Futaba PS-01 just on the tail servo. They work very well.

Yeah, I looked at the PS-01 before posting. It's is rated for 1 A (5A burst). Won't the BLS-251SB pull more than 1 A at 4.8/5.2 V ?

There is also a review of PS-01 I found through futaba-rc site:

You won’t draw anywhere near one amp continuous with that servo. Futaba made the PS-01 especially for that application.
