I am at work right now, but I could post tonight. I can tell you that I took the cap from a sharpie and cut it down.

Default 450 Night Blades with MCX Battery

Here are the pics I promised of my first attempt at night blades for my TREX450. I used 4-pin LEDs from RadioShack, copper tape from the doll house section of my LHS, and a ParkZone battery connector. They are so bright that I can't see my glo wire from HK.

Yes, I flew them last night for 30 minutes and they were not dead yet.

i think ya need higher value resistors in line with the led's to tone them down some.

I flew 3 packs during that half hour. I was messing around in between, but left the blade lights on.

Default FWD Voltage

Does anyone know the FWD voltage on?

Hobby City Blue, Green White?
Hobby City Red?

Xerogear Green, Blue?
Xerogear Red?

I think they are all 20ma, but do not know the FWD voltage.

Thanks,

Jamie

Well I am still seeing spots, but readings off the XeroGear strips stock.

2S
Green 2.75
Red 1.85
Yellow 1.95
White 2.65

3S
Green 3.30
Red 1.92
Yellow 2.02
White 3.11

I could not find any blue right now but I think they were running the same as the green.

From my calculations they are running about 15ma so you will need 68 ohm, and 150 ohm resistors if running 1S, that is what I am using.

Mudbogger2 thanks to you for starting this topic and for all your ideas / info and to everyone else that's contributed too. I've spent the last week building night blades and getting my first night ship ready, I had my very first night flight tonight and had the greatest time. The home made blades are tremendous and make it easy to perceive the attitude of the heli. On my first flight I was rolling and backward / forward flipping. Can't wait to go again.

I just built a new set of night blades using blue and green LEDs from Hobby City strips. I used one 15 ohm resistor for all three LEDs I put on. It is working great.

Has anyone ever tried this method of producing night blades on TR blades?

Are there LiPo cells small enough to really make it work? Does the much higher RPM on the TR make problems for this construction method?

Its Magic.......

The positive buss is on one side of the blade and the negative buss is on the other side of the blade. If you look close at the pics you will see that the strip that the LED is mounted to runns around the leading edge to the other side.
