Been having a vibe induced tail drift + slight wag problem on my 500ESP, the aileron & elevator however is absolutely rock solid after doing the mod
Up until now I have been using align tape - metal plate - 3M 4010, my sensor is mounted on the boom (I2) on plexiglass. If mounting combos don't solve my issue I'll try the gyro on both the base & gyro tray. I'm about to test fly a new mount combo: 4010 tape - large spartan plate - 4010 tape - sml align plate - 4010 tape - sensor. This is either going to be good/great/ok or very very bad, feeling rather nervous after reading some of the pants staining stories of bad mounting combos.

mate, seeing u r from Australia, u r wasting all that good money on metal plates.
Just fish for a 20cent coin in your jean pocket and use that instead of a metal plate. Works wonders on my 500ESP 3G. Sandwich it between 2 align pads and strap it down lightly. No more drifts or wags! |

Cheers for the tip mate
I tested the above combo & it improved things about 50%, but still not locked in like my gy520 & s9257 on my T250. So I trimmed up some wires & changed the sensor mount to the KDE receiver tray but after testing it on the bench I'm not even going to attempt a test fly, the sensor in that position was vibrating more than a lonely housewife So I went around testing various mounting locations with my finger whilst spooled up to 2700rpm, the RX tray was the worst, on a vibe scale I'd give it poor 1/10, top of my I2 boom block was surprisingly better, maybe a 7/10, but the base plate (KDE) seems like a clear winner with virtually no tactile vibration when touched with the finger, atm I'm giving it a 9/10...I'm about to shift the sensor with the same 4010 combo there & give it a test fly.

Towel is from eBay. Trexfreak in Portland Oregon. $2.77 plus like $3.00 ship. The towel is cool... It soaks up all the unwanted loctite and grease from the heli, and keeps me from losing nuts and bolts in the carpet!
My heli is in a state of repair/test still. I crashed her good awhile back([ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcVFJ5FsPaM&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]) and here's how she was flying prior to the crash ([ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DSsJsHlm-w&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]) since the rebuild, I can't get rid of the wiggle ([ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RABeUibDWgM&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]) still testing... But, I just bought pheonix! That was a great investment!! |

Just curious...did you change out ur bearings and bearing blocks after ur last crash? This is a resonant vibe thing as it appears in waves. Its not constant so its being induced from somewhere on the heli. If it were hardware setup or otherwise tail related it would always be there. This is a pulsating which I see, Ive done many years of sound and electronics enough to see the telltale signs of a frequency. Albeit slow and dissipating quickly, Its still a vibe, I believe.
The pulsating is the frequency building and building (laymans terms) and then finally releasing in a wag. JUST an observation. The sound engineering Ive done used to deal directly with resonance, wavelength and alignment of such. ( I used to build competition vehicles for " Soundoffs" in the upper 170db range. Still hold a record of 160.1db with only 300 watts of power. Took me a year to get there) Peace! |

Really? Only 300 watts huh.. Last time I did that I hit my head on my sink and after I woke up I designed the flux capacitor. Anyways props to Jondabear at Heliwerx for fixing my 3G today! Thanks again! You rock..

Jondabear, I replaced just about everything...
With the exception of the: main blade grips, main head, swash driver, swash plate, main bearing holders, electronics, & plastic mainframe parts... Every single bearing is new, everything from the tailboom block back(everything) is brand new, all gears, all shafts.... Here's my flight from last night , first fff since the rebuild... Been awhile since I've flown: it's still processing: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ngyTwrEB_s&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame] |

Eureka!!! After much trial & error I have finally found the mount that suits my 500, tail is now locked with zero wag/twitch ...
I used a perspex plate that is stuck to my base frame using 4010, then I have the thick spartan foam > sml plate > 4010 > sensor...very happy

I think I made a mistake when I used the 3M automotive two-sided tape and then tie strapped the unit very securely. now the heli is not even flyable and very jerky on the ground. I was trying to secure the unit to correct a tail jerk. any help or advise?

Changed my mounting from under the mainshaft on the bottom plate:
to the rear tray: that's 3mm foam, align plate, 3mm foam... I did the mod using blue align zeal tape. This setup is working much better... Now I need better weather to continue testing. |

IMO that will be too sloppy like that, but let us know how it goes.
I had mine (sold Trex500 since) on underside of the bottom plate, close to the rear skid with a single piece of 3M #4010. We currently have the same setup on my son's 500 & it's rocksolid.
