Default Seriously considering this as my first Nitro, but...

I am a complete noob to nitro. I own NOTHING for nitro.

Is there a Nitro for dummies book/thread you can point me too? My friends all tell me Nitro is a piece of cake, and it may well be. But before I can consider one, I need to read up on what is what.

Example, what the hell is "push glow"?

Don't laugh too hard

Push a button and it ignites the glow plug for a few seconds while you start the engine.
Spend some time reading in the Nitro heli portions of the forum. Watch some finless nitro build vids and you'll be well on your way to knowing all there is about Nitro.

Aw man what do you need to know about nitro! I can answer at least a decent amount of questions. Then when I get my electric in we can quid pro quo. Lol

You need different equipment to get your nitro going. When I get a chance I'll take pictures, and post up the various pieces. Some things to bear in mind are a starter, starter wand, fuel pump (for getting fuel into the tank), glow plugs, glow ignition (push glo, for example) fuel line, fuel line fittings, fuel magnet or clunk, etc. etc. Don't let the list intimidate you, it's very straight forward and the pictures will help make sense of everything.

Chris, I was a complete nitro noob just two months ago. I stumbled across a sweet deal on a 700N and just couldn't pass it up. That forced me to learn about nitro and it was a lot at first, but now looking back, its really not that bad. I'm still trying to learn how to tune the engine properly and until I do, I'll run a bit rich to be safe.

Like others have said, you have to invest in a few things when going to nitro. I got the yellow Align starter. Its nice and compact, uses a 3s lipo, and starts my 700N without a problem. You will need to figure out the fueling situation too. Some people use a manual pump and a small valve that attaches to the cap. My friend Larry pointed me to a great solution that uses a 2.5 gal. plastic container that is pretty flat, so it won't tip over when you're driving!

You attach a small fueling valve (Dubro) to this thing and then use a manual pump or a small electric pump to fuel up. I went with a Sullivan yellow pump. So far, so good... Fly, land, put heli on the bench, connect the fueling line to the heli and flick a button... 40secs later you're ready to go fly again! Can't beat it!

If you want to make your own fueling can, just send me a PM and I'll dig up all the part numbers and send them to you.

The only "special" tool I've purchased for my nitro is a glow plug wrench...definitely need one of those. The glow plugs are expendable parts and you should have a few on hand at all times.

Other than this stuff, working on a nitro engine is actually pretty easy....messy, but easy. They have only 5 or 6 parts to them! In my first month, I had to replace the muffler O rings and also the motor bearings. Those two jobs alone will teach you a great deal on how these little powerplants work... no biggie. Lots of folks here to help, including me... reach out anytime buddy!

Carlos.

Sounds to me like you've learned about 98% of everything you need to know about flying Nitro
