HeliMax EC145 Eurocopter
I just recently got the awesomely detailed 1/43 scale EC145 Eurocopter from Helimax!
This little baby packs amazing techno and style in one package. First of it's kind, collective pitch, brushless, flybarless PLUS four-bladed head with a factory built scale fuselage! As I already had the Axe 100 SSL, I chose the Tx-R version of the Eurocopter and paired it to my TX. First spool-up, I noticed how smooth it was and the unique sound provided by the four-bladed micro-head! The controls were nice and smooth, and lift-off was a go! I gently took her up, and had my way with her and she behaved perfectly! Solid as a rock, silky smooth, and just simply awesome to look at in flight. An amazing little machine. Here are some pics of her on display. It is also very durable. In my second flight, I had accidentally hit the nose against a tree and it bounced onto the grass. Only damage was the front nose window popped loose. With a flat-head screw driver, I was able to pop it back in place and she's as good as new. Not even the blades got nicked, scratched, dinged, nothing! She was ready for action once again! In flight pic's coming soon. One thing I noticed, is the battery plug is a little weak. When pulling apart the plug, I've had one of the wires pop out on me. Fortunately, it just pop's back in and your good to go. But, I'd be afraid this COULD be a weak point when flying.

I had the chance to see one in person (along with the Blackhawk) last evening.
The EC-145 looked very neat - nice detailing and finish - but smaller than I expected. The Blackhawk is on the small side too, though. Even though it's not 'scale', the tail motor on the EC-145 may be more practical than the complex torque tube on the Blackhawk. Time will tell on that, I guess. I plan on getting the Blackhawk as soon as my "financial officer" approves the transaction... Don Last edited by Digital Don; 07-13-2013 at 11:51 PM.. |

Also, the tail seems to hold very nicely. But I admit I haven't had the chance to put her through her paces yet. Maybe this week if we get to use the soccer field Wednesday I can give her a good thrashing.

I've Been Looking At These But The SSL Really Let Me Down. Does It Fly Any Better? How Is It Size Wise, Comparable To Nano Or Mcpx Size? I Like The Blackhawk, But For $30 Less I Can Get A 500 3d. Yeah Its A Blade, But I Don't Feel Like Hobbico Is any better

Took my fuselage off, looking at repainting it all pearl-white.

Just started messing around with mine but only hovered it. Using anylink and settings from axe 100 cp was not a good starting point. I only realized after a minor dust up (no damage) that the stock settings on the gyro need to be about 29 higher, and the pitch lower. Low gyro and high pitch settings are a recipe for HORRIBLE tail operation!!!!!
I was starting to work mostly on my axe 100cp settings so only tried the one flight, then as daylight was running out went back to the axe100, which I was making progress on setting up. Anyone care to share anylink Dx6i settings they like? I noticed that the main motor has a bit of fogging on start up and then fires up after tail is running. If anyone else noticed this on spool up, let me know so I know if it is normal. The motor is from the smaller axe ssl I think. If the tail holds well (once the settings are corrected) I have a boat load of micro heli brushless motors, so my play around and try upgraded motors and possibly esc. I have an extra co5, hp05, hp08, stock walkera v120d02s motor, and several inrunners I could try. Since the tags likes lo vibes I might try the stock v120d02 inrunners. They make about the same power as the stock heli max motor, but are smooth like only an inrunners can be, and spin up super easy. They weigh in at about 7 grams, so adds a few grams, but I bet this thing flies well with it. I suppose flying the thing first would be a good move! Haha Since its my birthday I just ordered the last of my "presents" s rtf black hawk, so I'll have all the current helimax scales in the fleet. Final question, anyone find the stock tx flies these better than anylink? I can't tell since I only few a few test flights on the axe 100cp and md530 (plus failed flight of ec145) but I'm not loving the way the anylink works and flies. I may be per judging things because I only made a few adjustments and the birds are we to me, just was not totally convinced the settings were great. Oh, so one more question, since I'll be getting factory tx, dies it come per set with any of the other birds beside des the one it comes with? Thanks |

Tx Settings
Question for those that have had one for a while. Have any of you had issues with twitchiness in transition from light on the skids to low hover.
I am a newbie on flybarless and noticed that some settings may need to be tweeked in the throttle and pitch to provide better transition through the ground effect? Am running a Futaba T6J and Anylink. |

I don't have an EC-145, but I do have a 130X, Blackhawk, and Red Bull 130x all of which are flybarless.
In general, they do not like sitting light on the skids - they have a tendency to tip if you don't lift them off. I've found it best to give them enough throttle to get them in the air as soon as the headspeed is enough to do so. It necessarily doesn't look 'scale' but it keeps them stable. All of them are fine once they are in the air. Don |

Thanks Don. I have just gotten into heli's and am transitioning from a V911 micro to this EC145. Had such an interesting time with it one day my buddy a maintenance test pilot thought it a bit odd watching it jump up. Haven't had weather/time to try again since then. A buddy of his (see more seasoned rc pilot) tried some changes and haven't experienced them myself.
Going to put the training gear and invest in a good SIM to build confidence. Working towards 450 size hopefully by end of summer. Suggestions on SIM anyone? |

We have RealFlight and like it. But I have had none of the others, so my opinion is not worth much. Oh wait, we did try "ClearView" and much prefer RealFlight to that (but there is quite a cost difference). But whichever, getting a simulator is a good investment I think. Not only are the "virtual helicopters" much cheaper to crash, but it's fun to try flying all the different airframes they model. |

Update
So, waiting on German Weather (i.e. Rain to subside) to get back out and fly again, as I am sure most of us are.
Wife scored an MSRx and 120 SR (Blade/Eflite) used from a guy who just didnt have time. $180 combined. Getting confident with the 120 SR so I can come back to the Solo Pro 130 (EC145). I have made 1 complete fueslage change getting used to this one and have a lot of "orientation" issues to over come. I now have a SIM and plan on getting some practice soon for the rainy/windy days to come. Saw now that overseas they are carrying a larger even more realistic version of the EC145. http://www.robbe.de/rc-modelle/rc-hu...ne-eagles.html |

Ben desperately trying to find a replacement fuselage for mine as I've broken two parts off it, and repainted it black. Didn't care for the black. I've seen these available in different colors from the rebadged Nine Eagles model, an awesome military gray one. Even seen a beautiful white, "none-painted" body on Amazon. But, disappointed in the fact that Amazon doesn't take PayPal so I can't purchase it.
Really want to get a new fuselage for this thing.

Found a replacement fuselage for it. Got it today and installed it, but shorted out the tail and Dad's fixed it. Will test it again tomorrow after work.
Still trying to find the rebadged military gray version.

Got new board, new tail and all back together again. Flies beautifully!
I am still desperately trying to find the other fuselages available for this model from Nine Eagles version. They offer military gray, nato-green, and an elusive none-painted white version. Found the white version on Amazon, but darn too expensive and Amazon doesn't take PayPal. May just go ahead with another fuselage of same color scheme and just repaint it. But for now, happy that it's back in the air and look's perfect.

my ec145 arrived the other day - i was out celebrating with some friends last week and decided what the heck i should buy this.
TLDR - I need resources. I have no idea what I am doing, and a purchase like this is highly irregular for me. Thankfully the controlled was too complicated for me to operate on my first 'who needs instructions' attempt. I do have a true true enthusiasm for RC, just never brought it any where close to this level and had mostly left it alone for the last 10 yrs or so. I have very little experience with micro heli's I read both the 'instruction manuals' cover to cover and googled high and low for everything I could find about flying collective pitch helicopters. I have made roughly six attempts. I broke a tail fin off, it fit back in nicely. I am living by the motto 'a flight that ends in one piece is a successful flight' as far as I can tell, she operates as she should. I have noticed the leaning on light skids. I live in the city and in a small apartment - my margin for error is small - my objective is to be a strong enough pilot to maneuver it regardless Yes I realize, after many googles, that a different helicopter might be more reasonable, I only really saw one other that was less sophisticated and met my wish list - mico, flybarless and scale. So that's the good news, without having done any research at all and barely being able to enter my CC info, I got pretty much everything i wanted, of all the options out there. I am 100% sure I am going to break something, if I haven't already - would anyone be kind enough to point me in the direction of a good resource for both how-to repairs and parts sources? I have been following this guide, more or less http://rchelicopterguide.weebly.com/...ht-school.html and scoured YouTube Does anyone possibly have recommendations on educational material? I am smart, patient, and good with my hands and enthusiastic, I am sure with some nudges in the right direction I can get this sorted out. I appreciate any help - if anyone cares to see I could also put up some pictures |
