Default Motor, LiPo and ESC combos

Thinking of getting an X50E and just wondering what others are using in their machine

Jive 80 hv, align mx700 motor, 3300 12s tp 65 cc , beast x not mine but the one I specced out for a friend, if you run vbar you can run vbar gov and fusionhawk with wr bec but jive much less cumbersome.
The mx motor is the best bang for buck , pyro copy but conservative winding, enough for 50 size however runs very cool and efficient.

Stolla,
how much flight time are you getting
with the 12S 3300mah setup?

A little out of the ordinary but I like lower headspeeds for smoother 3D and much longer flights
Hacker Turnado (580KV)
10S flightpower 3800's
Jeti Spin pro 75
smallest pinion (13 tooth)
Current setup is 1810 and 2000 headspeeds
Timing is advanced 20 degrees so the actual KV of the motor is a bit higher and I have sufficient headroom for the governer even at 2000.

I've been pushing flight times up a bit at a time, currently using 60 to 65 percent of the packs at 6 minutes of motor run time, about 7 flight time when you throw in a few autos. This indicates I should arrive around 8 minutes motor run time, 9 or so total flight time . This would be 85 or so percent of the packs used, but in my slightly lower power setups nothing gets hot and I have no qualms about pushing the packs to 90+ percent if I want. The generally mentioned 80% "rule of thumb" is quite conservative. Heat is the enemy, and I think folks came up with that arbitrary 80% rule because most setups these days push things to within an inch of their life with high currents and short runtimes. When you do that you get things warmer, and the last 20% or so of the pack the temps can climb very very quickly. In my 10-minute 12S setups on the 700's I regularly fly well over ten minutes and use over 90% of the packs. Some of my 12 to 14 minute flights have hit low voltage cuttoff and recharge showed full capacity used (100%). I don't recommend that, but over 200 cycles on those packs and they show no degredation in performance or capacity, as the temps never got high. The only issue with lower revs is that the setup is far more critical. Gains and various settings to eliminate wobble and bouncy stops are much more difficult to get right, but when you do you're rewarded with very long flights and cool components.

I've had this setup geared differently and spinning 2350 which really wakes up the machine, but that's not my style of flying that I like (angry hornet on crack style<G>) and I don't like the 4 to 4.5 minute flight times

after much deliberation.
went for
700 size motor 580kv
120HV esc
and 6S 3600mA 30-40C packs (cause I had one and only needed to buy 3 more packs)

that was another option I had as I have 4S 4500mA hard case packs for my 1/8 cars.
On 8S it would be fine rember T600 used to use 6S but it was hard on the packs.
I opted for 12S cause the wattage capability is much greater with the 12S set up but if you don't need "pop" or agressive flight 8S woild be fine.

I know everyone is going to say don't do it, but think I will go for a 6S setup for now. Thinking about either a 1000kv or 1100kv motor and a 100amp esc on 6s. I know 8s -12s would be better, and this is hard on packs, etc, but I'm on limited funds right now so my kit will either sit in the box for longer, or it can get flown. I also saw an early vid of this bird on youtube with TT flying it on 6s and it was performing nicely.

Give it a whirl Sting it will be a nice light weight set up.

I've seen that video. You can even fly it 6S or . . . 5S!

Lol. Think ill stick with 6s. Or maybe I could put the mcpx motor on and run 1s. Got the bird almost built in 6 hours today. Just missing the electronics and the linkages and other minor stuff. This was my first full kit build and it was a lot of work. Probably good though as a lot of stuff is different than align birds

I run 8s with Scorpion 4025-890, CC ICE 100, Zippy 45c 4500mah 4s packs x2, AR7200BX, CC BEC Pro, Savox 1258TG's and 1290SH on the tail. Have the gov on set RPM Normal 2100RPM Idle 1 2200RPM and Idle 2 2300RPM. Get about 6 min with around 30% left in the packs.

That's almost the exact setup I was gonna run with 8s minus servos. I found a hobbywing 100a hv escape for a Tad over 100. Might get it instead and ill be good from 6s to 12s

Yea it wasn't selling so decided ill just build it. I'm still going back and forth on going either 6s or 8s. The 8s setup allows for quite cheaper batteries. I wasn't realizing that with 6s i'll need a 5000mah pack which has me around 50 bucks a pop for the cheapest ones that were 30c I think. Can get 40c 4s 4000 packs for like 32. Only real difference in price between 6s and 8s is the esc and i will either go with the ice100, or a hobbywing 100a HV which will bearound the same price as the castle. That will also let me run 12s in the future, but if I go 8s now those packs will be useless to me. decisions, decisions. Wish I was rich and could just buy anything I wanted, lol. I think the best bet would be to go 6s with the HV esc, cause then I would just need a new motor for 12s, that or go with 8s and stay with 8s. I don't see myself needing neck snapping 3d power anytime soon. I can barely hold an inverted hover most of the time. I'm sure i could pull off some tic tocs as long as my tail doesn't blow out, and i've on ocassion been able to do funnels. I got a lot of work to do on inverted/backwards flight before I will be able to progress to anything needing a lot of power, which might be fine on 8s anyways.
