Default 1200W/50A Power Supply

I just got this warning from Revolectrix
Recommendation from our Engineering Department Regarding:

Product: E-Fuel 1200W/50A Power Supply
Model No: SK-200015

When powering any Revolectrix Cellpro Charger or Battery Workstation using the E-Fuel 1200W/50A power supply:

1) First connect the Power Supply to AC power BEFORE connecting the charger to the power supply

2) Set the voltage on the Power Supply so it is within the operating range of the Cellpro Charger or Battery Workstation you will be powering

3) Wait at least 15 seconds

4) Then connect the Cellpro Charger or Battery Workstation to the Power Supply

5) Conversely, disconnect the Cellpro Charger or Battery Workstation from the Power Supply BEFORE disconnecting the Power Supply from AC power

We appreciate your business!

Anyone know why?

If you own that supply, please follow the guidance regardless of charger.

I often connect to my supply first, then power it up. If nothing else, you avoid sparks as the caps charge when you connect to the supply.

I have little supplies that must be powered up like this, they will shut down if they are powered up before I plug in the charger.

Different charger and supply, but this always seemed reasonable to me. I often unplug the supply from the wall with the charger still connected.

Greg, why do you suggest doing this for every setup?

The guidance is specific to the supply mentioned in the recommendation from Revolectrix. This does not apply broadly to all supplies. In fact many supplies behave like the one you described, connecting the charger after power triggers the overload protection. Again, the guidance is only for the supply mentioned above.
