Default OrangeRx Futaba FASST Compatible 8Ch 2.4Ghz Receiver

Hey Freakers
Just wondering if anyone out there is using the above Futaba "compatible" receiver.
I have purchased one (they are pretty cheap) to put in my Trex 250. I don't have much time on this heli and certainly not up to the 3D Stage yet, and didn't want to destroy a AU$160 receiver on my first fat fingers moment.

I have no problems using the more expensive option when my skills are more advanced, but thought someone may have used this cheaper option already and has an opinion (as most of us do )

The RX is available at HobbyKing
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14300

Cheers and thanks for any comments.

Cool bananas
So reading through this info posted in the other post and the asscocociated review, it seems that Futaba may be in for a bit of competition on this.

I still think that there is no compromise for the Fuatba RX's, but it's nice to know there is another option.

Answered all my questions, thanks for pointing out this post

Apparently mine has been shipped by HK (ordered on the 20th of Oct) , it was listed as BO for about 2 weeks but recently changed to shipped, so I expect it in the next few days, maybee early next week.

Will let you know

Yea mine arrived last week, but I don't really have anything to put it in currently (other than a Habu, but I'd prefer not to test it in that). I'll try to borrow someone else's foamy this weekend to try one out in.

I ordered a couple as well. Will report back once they arrive and get tested.

Default FAAST Orange Receiver tested

HowTO – setup Hobby King Orange FAAST receiver
11/09/10

I received a Hobby King Orange FAAST compatible receiver today. I paid $29 and $3 shipping but now see that current price is $39 – but if you login it still is $29 – it must be popular.
I completed the binding (easy) with my Futaba 7C transmitter and tested several servos with results as follows:
Futaba S3003 (analog) – lots of buzzing
Futaba FP-S134 (analog) – lots of buzzing
Hobbico CS-12 (analog) – lots of buzzing
Corona DS-919MG (digital) – very good
Esky 8 gram (digital) – very good
EXI D213f (digital) – very good
I also turned on three other 2.4Ghz systems very close to this setup and no interference noted.
Conclusion – the cheap (less cheap now) HK Orange FAAST compatible receiver really works but only with digital servos.

I installed this receiver in my EXI450 heli but now note that the GYRO (channel 4) will not initialize. I tried 3 gyros (Telebee head hold, Hobby King HK401B, and Logictech LGT-2100T) all with same result. I have previously noted that Corona Synthesized Dual Conversion Receiver 6Ch 72Mhz receivers had the same problem – would not initialize my several gyros.

So it looks like my great find (cheap FAST receiver) is not so great.

However – after I posted the above information at the Hobby King forum I got a reply which corrects the analog servo buzz and the gyro problem. Apparently the Orange receiver has a high speed signal or low speed signal which you can select. To select power up the receiver with a 4.8v flight battery and press and hold the bind button on the receiver for 6 seconds and note that the flashing red led goes from rapid flashing to slow flashing – now you are in “low speed signal” and analog servos and gyros work just now.
The Hobby King 401b gyro settings are N12% and A23% - these settings are unusually low but work fine.
Luck,
Vince

Now that is some useful information! Thanks Vince.

Mine should be arriving any day now. I am also going to use them with a Futaba 7C on an EXI450 with Corona DS-919MG on cyclic duty. Inertia 860 gyro with Futaba 9257 on tail. I will report my findings.

Cheers,
Bob

I received my 3 Orange receivers. They look just like the pic. in this thread. Although, a orange hard case/shell will be available soon.

I put one on my Esky King II testbed. It bound with my 7C in less than a second. I had to switch it to LS mode as described above as I am running with Blue Bird 306 analog servos and a Etech G105 gyro. The gyro would not initialize until switched to LS mode. After I did that, gyro is good and no buzz from any servo.

Works great!

Cheers,
Bob

I just got one of those from the UK. It came with the plastic case. The receiver itself looks good quality, but the plastic case is not up to par. It almost separates itself. The receiver is a little big compared to what I was used to (I understand it is a bit bigger than the Futaba 8 channels FASST).
I will be running it on a Trex 500, so I'm thinking of removing the plastic case.
Can anyone tell me how I can do a transparent shrink wrap as the other version or point me towards another way to protect it?

Thanks

I got two of these from HobbyKing a few weeks ago...I finally installed one in a Hangar 9 Twist 3D 40 plank. My Twist has a Saito .65 four stroke with Futaba and Hitec analog servos. I just used velcro on the bottom of the rx (mine is the shrink wrap version) for mounting. I bound everything to my 8FG, using "multi" mode in the tx and "low speed mode" on the rx (for the analog servos).

I flew it Sunday afternoon 6-8 times and it never missed a beat. Futaba recommends 30-50 paces on the range check and it easily made this. Even with the solid mounting and the vibrations from the four stroke, it did perfect. The only thing I wish mine had was a hard plastic case.

So got my Orange RX....installed it, works just fine.
It has individual fail safes for all channels.

How to put it in failsafe programming mode isn't
my question....that part is covered in the docs.

What seems best position for failsafes?

Throttle 65%
Ail - centered stick.
Ele - centered stick
Pitch - Hover...65% or so...
Rudder - Centered.

What would you folks set your failsafes to for each channel?

It's really kool that you can daisy chain 2 of these Rxs and have
14 channels!

I would have throttle 0% and pitch under 50%.
If you have throttle and pitch above 50% when you loose control the heli will just take off vertically until it eventually runs out of power, or slowly rolls/flips over and then it will plummet full speed into the ground.

Kevin - I won't ask how you know that
Good advice.

Is OrangeRx Futaba FASST Compatible 8Ch 2.4Ghz Receiver working fine with Futaba 7C TX, and can work as a substitute for R617FS ?

It should work fine with a 7C. Make sure if you turn off high speed mode on the receiver unless you are using all digital servos.

Hi thanks, ordered from HK to make comparison with the 617. Price only a third of the 617.
