Hi all,

Could anybody please share their VBar tail advanced settings for the 690sx? I'm having a small ccw 5-10 degree tail kick on hard positive punch outs and I just cannot get rid if it... Played with the gains, acceleration and pre comp as per Mr Mels vids with no luck.

Running stock blades with 12 degrees of pitch, stock motor and a 120A scorpion commander ESC with active governor.

Many thanks for your input!!!

Sounds like something i have seen many times when the headspeed drops on the punch - which governor are you using?

If its a passive one (especially Castle...) - change to Vbar gov.

If its Vbar - first check your gearing with mr mell calc. you want to be closer to the "+ performance".

check your gains and precomp for the governor before trying to fix the tail.

Thanks Omerco, good suggestion. Right now I am using the Scorpion gov. I will deactivate it the next time I am out and fly with a V throttle curve. If that gets rid of it I will move on to the Vbar gov, I am told it is very good.

On my 450L, however, I also run with the esc gov and I do not see this effect...

Thanks

Managing torque in a 450 is a very different thing from managing it on a 700. The easiest way to get a perfectly performing tail is to turn off all precomp in the gyro and tune the governor by itself. Once the tail is as solid as you can get it just with gov tuning, then move to tail precomp to iron out any remaining bad tendencies (especially in tic-tocs where you're mixing in a lot of cyclic.)

I would suggest just running the vbar gov. There is really no way the scorpion governor could do a better job. Only downside is the need to run a phase sensor.

V courve will not solve your problem, if it is the one i reffer to. Actually it will probably get worse.
You need a good reactive governor able to hold the rpm well when you give sharp pitch command. What happens is the torque goes up but rpm drops causing drop in tail rotor rpm and some lose of authority, usually short until the rpm recoveres.

You could try higher gains with scorpion, but best go Vbar gov. You will need the opto cable to connect to the vbar.

P.s. im using skookum governor but on my first 2 flights on the 690 I lowered the governor gain so it will not interfere with the tail while i tune it. This caused small similar phenomenon. I just tune the tail gain and only after the governor is solid i adjust the precomp

Thanks for the advice. I will get myself the opto cable and give it a go. I am sure the VBar gov is miles better than the reactive scorpion gov.

Thanks

Thanks. Opto cable has been ordered!! I hope this fixes it! I will report next week-end.

Is there a good thread or video about governor tuning, specifically to minimize the tail kick?

I've had this problem on my Raptor E700 and when I get it back together, I'd love some new ideas for that.

There's an excellent podcast with an episode where they spend an hour on FBL tuning, which includes adjusting the governor to get the tail dialed. Unfortunately we're not allowed to refer to that particular podcast on this forum.

Not a bad idea, but not the same as turning the precomp off and tuning the governor.

I'm looking for governor tuning, but now that you're making me search things for my self I'll go do that, and share it everybody but you. So there.
