wait, you can't just start in idle up with the skookum gov?

I always start all my heli's in idle up.... I never use normal at all actually.

=] that's interesting, my T5 in gov mode needs to see normal with a ramp to kick it in, for idle1 starts it goes into failsafe 70% throttle.

My ESCs (cc25A in the 250, YGE-30 in the x2 and ice 100 in the protos) all start fine in idle up just flicking off throttle hold to start.

Nice slow spool up and then straight into the governed head speed. I actually have normal programmed as another idle up with a flat throttle curve so I have 3 different governed head speeds available.... I have no use for normal mode at all actually!

Are you telling me I won't be able to use the skookum governor in that fashion? It shouldn't need a ramp up and head speed test because it works to a fixed rpm based off a phase sensor and gear ratio so there's no "testing" of max head speed required....

=] any cake left over??! how it feels is by increasing the throttle at some point it leaves the ESC spool ramp and allows the gov to fully engage, at a.predetermined SK position if you like.

this will give a solid RPM as selected for this mode, from here idle 1/2 offer 2 more headspeeds if desired.

there is a transition period where the SK gov takes over, which I think is the issue as posted upstream?

will wait n see!

Hah, no no cake left.

I don't understand why the gov needs any behaviour to engage. It knows the gearing ratio, it knows the desired rpm, it knows the actual rpm from the phase sensor....

The only reason some traditional govs need the spool up period with zero pitch and then a small rpm dip to acknowledge the gov being set is because it has to figure out what speed to govern at each time. The skookum doesn't need to do this as it has all the info available already.

Or are you just talking about taking off before the heli is fully spooled up regardless of the mode you initiate in?

Same here :lol
The HS dip a bit then revs up to the second set speed. I have good results running SK gov with HW 70A ESC. It was different story when paired with Align ESC. Perhaps the gearing ratio was wrong also.

When the RPM sensor box is checked, what should be the voltage output from port IO-C?

I am getting 5.8 V with the box checked. Is that correct?

Is that your BEC voltage (6v)? If so sounds normal to me.

I agree with the idle 1 start up, if you do this it won't go past 70%
Throttle.

Its happened to me a few times, because I forget idle 1 is on.
I have it all set to the wizards numbers.

The thing I don't get is, which is the proper way to get a less than 100%
Gov headspeed,

1.. lower TX throttle value from 100% to say 85%

2. Input the actual rpm wanted in the gov on the sk720, leave throttle how it says
( its how I'm setup, but I'm going up a pinion, and I'm not sure, and it doesn't really say)

My BEC delivers indeed 6v, but the RPM sensor box in the software must be checked because otherwise you toast the sensor. So the question is if the 5.8v can toast a sensor, because I have the impression that mine is not working.

When I check or uncheck the RPM sensor box, there is in both cases 5.8v coming out of port IO-C. I don't understand what would be different for the port if the box is checked or not.

That is to power the sensor, the issue is that if the box is not checked the signal wire of that port could also have voltage on it, the sensor is not designed for this and it may damage it.

Pretty sure if the voltage is present on the power pins of the port it should be fine.

To test operation, install the sensor but leave the gov off (make sure RPM sensor box is checked) then you should get RPMs in the flight log.
