Default Mid-priced pack opinions wanted. What do you fly?

I'm wondering what mid-priced lipos people have been flying with good results for the past couple seasons? I'm really getting tired of the lipo crap shoot. Do I simply need to man up and buy competition grade packs?

I've stuck with Gens Ace for almost three years now, however I've been disappointed with their longevity as of late. The last 3 sets of their 3300 mAh 25C and 35C packs have been disappointing and last only about 70 cycles.

Perhaps my expectations are too high but I'd prefer a pack last at least 100 cycles. I'm almost tempted to take my chances with Turnigy. My first set of Turnigy (Blue 30-40C) 3000 mAH packs lasted over 120 cycles.

Haiyin, Glacier, Pulse or any other up and coming players in the market?

I've heard good things about the Revolectrix lipos, but haven't tried them personally though.

I've had both the 35c and 25c gens. The 25c are lasting much longer than the 35c. Im at about 150 cycles but ir is starting to climb. They balance well and have the same capacity as when they started, just don't hold voltage as well as they did before. I went up a tooth on the pinion and I don't notice the voltage drop much. I think optipower may be my next packs.

My IR's are still holding pretty well and balancing hasn't started to deteriorate yet. I expect the balancing problems to start up in the next 10 or so flights, if these current packs continue on the trend of the other packs.

I only run 2050 rpm on the head and 12.5° pitch. After looking at my Castle logs I noticed minimum voltage around 35.88V (2.99V per cell) when pulling a modest 70 amps. 4 months ago the voltage drop at that current was only 3.55V per cell).

I feel I've tried to give Gens Ace a more than fair chance. I'm not happy so I'm moving on to another brand.

Hi LubeMan. Did you end up trying out the Glaciers? What packs were you flying previously?

Yeah 2.99 per cell is definitely getting bad. Mine are still holding at 3.2 minimum pulling over 120 amps so I guess I got lucky with mine. It seems gens ace has started going downhill lately. I don't think I'll buy them again either. Seems like glaciers are also hit and miss. I've heard good things about them but I had 4 of their packs that didn't last long at all. Maybe half as long as my gens ace did. I just want something consistent and it sounds like optipower might be the brand.

Hey Iso, I do have a set of glaciers that have been working well probable go 50 cycles on them and going strong. I fly them about 5 minutes of sport type flying, big air loops etc. always come done around 3.7V per cell and still balance well.

Wow 3.2V minimum at 120 amps after 150 cycles, that's pretty good. Are those 3,300 mAh packs or something higher? If I remember correctly you run larger blades and a 700-size motor.

Yep 3300's. However I did back down to compass 615s. Running a scorpion 4225 now which makes as much power as my 700 motor did, but much more efficiently. Before i was pulling as much as 140 amps. 3.2 per cell is still down to 38 volts or so. Not great but not too bad. When my packs were new , they were holding at around 42 volts minimum which is 3.5 per cell. My ir started around 1 or 2 per cell, now up to 5 to 10 per cell.

I have 3600mAh 6s batteries, I'm wondering if they'll fit in a 6HVU ?
They measure 42 x 44 x 140 and weight 575grms which I know is big and heavy for this helicopter but will they be usable for sport flight initially so I don't have to factor in new lipos with this kit that I've had my eye on since its release? A long time I know!

They might, I think the canopy on the U is bigger than the 6HV.

It would be great if they do so I can share packs between my 600X and a 6HVU.
I've been looking at a couple of different 3300mAh pack which aren't much smaller or lighter then my current packs who knows I might be lucky.
Thanks for replying LubeMan1 that 6HVU canopy really does look massively roomy.
