i would love to hear if it really does have more power than stock or not. Also any issue with the servo link rubbing? It looks like the clearance is less than the stock motor. Looks beautiful though

Also a 11T RevCo "Hard One" but itīs too big and therefore slightly milled my main gear

Gonna try an align pinion next.
With the 11T I had the same ~2900 rpm while hovering in the garden.

9sec240 already postet videos where you can hear, how smooth the scorpion runs.

There are virtually no vibrations with the Scorpion motor installed as shown in this video.
Hey Ivan, how many flights have you had since installing this motor, and have you had any issues (links rubbing, etc)?

I used the Scorpion pinion which fits quite well. The size transition is squared off instead of rounded.

I have flown it as hard as I can and have not had rubbing issues. It feels like it has more power than stock but I never really got to wring out the stock motor due to vibrations. I have not flown it much due to weather and getting sidetracked with an RC dragster. I should be able to get out today though. The video I posted with the Scorpion motor sounds pretty bad actually. You hear the interference from the radio that the camera picks up for some reason. I'll try to get a better video today.

Is this pinion any good ????

http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/scor...e-p-19386.html

Might do the upgrade scorpion motor if it fits perfectly without any mod to frame

You might have a couple of little problems with that pinion. A, it's a 0.6 mod instead of a 0.5 and secondly it has spiral cut teeth instead of straight cut teeth. Apart from that it's fine.

I tried two revco gears from them and they were horrible. Ended up with one from ebay which is perfect, and it was the cheapest option too.

Was your replacement motor any better? Thanks.

It was from sparesrc on ebay.co.uk. 11T pinion for 3.175mm shaft. The same style as Ivan used, straight sided, boss on the botton with grub screw hole. The ones with a taper to the teeth don't quite work as the main gear runs on part of the taper, so the teeth can't engauge enough.

I am trying to find a 10T version. I am curious if it would slow the headspeed down enough to run the ESC at 100% with the woodies for just sport flying.

I have been getting PMs with questions about the install of the Scorpion motor. I figure I will post up here to save some time for everyone.

The HK 2208-24 V2 is a direct plug and play affair. It bolts right to the stock mount using the stock Blade screws. The motor bullets that come soldered to the Scorpion even plug right into the stock E-Flite ones on the ESC.

You will need an new pinion for the Scorpion motor. The Scorpion 11T 3.17 mm .5 mod pinion fits perfectly for me. For higher head speed, a 12T pinion would be preferred.

There are zero mods needed for the install. You just pull off your old motor with the mount. Install the Scorpion motor on the mount. Then install it in the 300 X and experience a nice vibe free motor and that awesome Scorpion sound.

Paul, flip the tapered pinion upside down. It looks like there is enough shaft to run it this way and get proper engagement with the main gear.

Tried that, didn't quite work.

One thing to keep in mind is that a 4s1000mAHr pack, with this 3590 rpm/V Scorpion motor would match both the stock headspeed (4/3 * 3590 rpm/V=4800 rpm/V) and total pack energy (3/4* 1300mAHr=975mAh) of the stock setup.

This would be using the same pinion as stock. Of course you still need to get one that fits the 1/8" Scorpion shaft size.

Biggest problem to me is the reduced clearance between the can and the ball link.

Honestly, the clearance seems to be about the same. I got out and flew it as hard as I could and came down with a bent main shaft after one pack. The link did get rubbed ever so slightly.

Pulled the main shaft out and found it bent right at the hole for the main gear. I can see tiny cracks extending out from the hole on each side too.

This is horse crap

I don't know WHY HH made that main shaft so thin.

It sucks you have to fly in fear of it breaking every time

Inconsistent manufacturing? Luck of the draw? It is pretty clear that there is a problem with the main shaft based on the number of people having issues.
