Default Fury 55 tail shake in backwards flight?

My Fury 55 has this violent tail shake when doing any maneuver that loads up the tail. Invert funnels, backwards invert hurricanes, and tail slides. It will start wagging very aggressively. It stops as soon as I take the load off the tail.

I can't find anything obviously wrong mechanically or electronically.

Perhaps my belt is too loose? On spool up, I can hear it slap around a little. However, tension on it seems OK, it's about where I've run most of my belt driven machines.

Gyro/Tail servo is a GY701/BLS251. Gyro gain in HH mode is about ~66%.

Tail acts normal all the rest of the time.

Shake as in shudder or tremble or tail wag?

Tail wag... It's as if the gyro "freaks out" and the tail "spasms" until the load is taken off.

Have you try to lower the gain?

Heya,

Try adjusting the belt tension, If that fails, Try lowering the gain..

Also, What hole are you using on your servo?

Too close towards the center of the servo will need alot of high gain and travel, too far out will produce too much travel and a low gain.

Start with then tension and let us know

I'd be willing to bet it's just the gain. high gain does not neccessarily = better performance.

I lowered it a little, and it did seem to help. I was still getting some doing inverted tail down funnels, but I will try lowering it some more sometime this week.

You do know your supposed to use 2 gains right. one for hover, one for idle up (stunt) they should be like 65 and 45 for stunt.

Not necessarily true, I don't think I've ran two gains before, Only on small electric helicopters.

It all depends on what headspeed you are running, I don't use normal mode at all, Only for the first maiden and intial setup.

There's Gyros like the GY611 where you set the gain to 37% and you forget about it.

I have not flown a 701 but if it is like all the other Futaba gyros since the GY401 and GY601 I have never seen a reason to run higher then 40%. You don't really need multiple rates because it just works!
I second the premise the gain is too high.

My Furry 55 had a similar problem like yours, it got worse over this week, turns out it was one of the boom supports, the end had come loose and the boom was moving about, did it mostly in a right turn, at first the end was tight enough not to notice when checking it on the ground, today it was very loose, that's how I spotted it.
Glued it back on had a flight, spot on tight tail no wag whole flight....
