Default Turnigy TGY-213C servo

Designed for 250 helis but I'm sure will be good enough for 300X. Lighter than the TGY-S306G (that I've always trusted even in my Protos 500 stretched with 470mm blades), a bit lower power but good specs. Should be more than enough than the way overkill S306G. Description says plastic gear but I highly doubt it. One review says black metal output gear. I don't think they'll be so dumb to run plastic gears in an all-metal housing servo.

Someone try it out...

Yeah doesn't make sense to have plastic gears at 16 grams and $21. The stated dimensions look okay, but even when they fit into the elevator servo pocket, some don't align correctly or the shaft protrudes too far toward the other side of frame.

Just bought three tgy-211dmh for my 300x having read they were drop in with no mods. Turns out the elevator servo is not even close to fitting into the stock servo pocket. I tried it on two different stock frames. But they do fit my microheli frame so no worries.

Once the usa warehouse's begin stocking the TGY-213C I might try them. I wonder if they'd work on the rudder? Then again....I guess the C is for cyclic.

Just use a file to shave off the edges of the mounting tabs. That's the only thing you have to do to fit the TGY-211 into the stock frame. Takes about 60 seconds.

I get you on the mounting tab trimming. On mine it appeared the hump that surrounds the shaft would make contact with the frame long before the servo would seat into place. But after hearing from you, I suspect if the tab shaving was done.....perhaps it would all fit together, in spite of how impossible it looks.

What about this one DoubleCH

http://www.alofthobbies.com/kst-ds245s.html

I see trex 250 guys are using them with good luck. Sub 9g and it has good specs. Is their a turnigy to match it?

Looks good enough for 300-size. Looks like TGY equivalent version although this one says up to 7.4V not 9V.

Someone try these out. I'm happy with my cheap Corona servos.

Awesome so choices for both brands. I live 30 min from aloft so I would most likely get the kst. I've been wanting to drop the weight of my 215mg down to something a bit more reasonable.

Has anyone tried any of the servos Lynx distributes?

I have been eyeballing the DS-995 but the $40 price tag is a bit intimidating. Especially when I have three to buy.

Some background on my 300X, it's bone stock. I am pretty much brand new to this game so I honestly can't even tell you what the difference between Cyclic an non Cyclic Servos are...

Any tips tricks and suggestions are welcomed. I am looking to ditch the Eflite plastic servos just because I am tired of the gears stripping out. I hear metal gears is the way to go.

Thoughts?

My favorite cyclic servo right now is the digital/metal gear, Hitec HS-5055mg.

Why do I like it?

1.) affordable at $17.99 each

2.) a true drop in replacement with no trimming of case required, though it may need spacers on the mounting screws......easy.....I use brass bushings made for servo mounting.

3.) light weight at around 9 grams

4.) have proven reliable on my own rc aircraft

Possible negative: The speed rating is a little slow compared to most other cyclic servos. Unless you are an expert 3D pilot who notices a one tenth of a second difference in response.....you'll be fine with these. Some really good 3D flyers still use them.

Any thoughts on what the hitech equivalent would be for a tail servo for the 300X? Right now I am using the stock eflite servos and I find over time they strip out pretty easy. Looking for something with some a$$ to it if you know what I mean

Response time isn't really that big of a deal. I am a new pilot and by no means am experienced with 3D flight. Just looking for something to replace plastic

I'm not sure which Hitec for tail. Minimal deadband and decent speed are needed for rudder use. I rarely see specs given for deadband, so I watch what better pilots are using.

This or faster is good for speed: 4.8V: 0.07 sec / 60° at no load.

Some good discussion on rudder servos: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=492617

Below are just a couple of tail servos popular here on this 300x thread:

I use the Turniqy 211 on the tail and Turniqy 113s on the cyclics. Have had 3 bad crashes that took out rotor grips, bent main shaft, etc over the first year of flying and all servos are working like new. Can't complain.

Found and grabbed a buy-it-now new package Savox SH-0262mg rudder servo for a deal under $24 shipped from euro.

Also......here is a possible candidate for cheap bargain-bin cyclic, sub-micro digital metal gear 13 grams $8 each. Someone could test these out.

Replaced my stockers with KST servos:

http://www.alofthobbies.com/kst-ds215-servo.html

Drop in replacements for the stockers. You'll need to go through the setup on the AR7200BX and adjust the tail gain. I actually purchased them for my 450x, but the 300x needed them first. I'll buy another set for the 450x as I've been pleased with them in the 300x.

The overseas vendor I ordered my savox sh-0262mg from has not given me a shipping notice. First time out of 30 plus ebay orders. Sent them two emails....no reply. Guess must go on faith only. They have a good rating.

After disassembling a Turnigy TGY-213c, I can confirm it uses metal gears. There is also a kst Daviga DS213 that Alofthobbies sells (identical except for a red case, I have both). I can’t track down any replacement gear sets though. I’m going to try them on a Gaui X2 cyclic.
