Default XXTREME FOR SPEED ?

Does anybody have an idea how well the extreme would perform for speed flying ? A lot of speed machines using a 2 stage drivetrain. I'm kinda curious how much direct power can be applied on the XXtremes drivetrain without stripping or damage... or is it optimized for hard 3D flying...

I've flown a Henseleit TDR as well as a modified Trex 700 (TDRex) which most didn't recognize as not being a Henseleit... both with same configuration (motor, Esc, head-speed).
TDR two stage, TDRex one stage... you'll see no difference, actually the TDR felt faster than the TDRex.
But what you really see without even measuring is the canopy... Trex canopy is way slow than a TDRex with Henseleit canopy.

I don't think it would be very good. It is true that the drive train is very tough and can process huge amounts of power reliably, but...

Speed requires slick aerodynamics. As you go up in speed, the amount of power it takes to overcome aerodynamic drag is an exponential function.

The XXtreme's canopy is not small and slick by any means. It looks cool and all, but it's quite large.

Although the machine is not "slow" by any means in forward flight, I doubt it will ever give a TDR a run for the money (Kyle has a TDR, and it's quite a bit faster than the XXtreme in flat-out speed).

Interesting ! So If somebody makes this " aerodynamic " canopy, the heli will be a lot faster ? Then theoretically the one stage drivetrain should be more efficiënt assuming it can hold the same power as the dual trains ( some even use belts ). Should be nice to see a Mikado competing the speed machines like Diabolo, Banshee, TDR, ...

A two stage powersystem can use smaller gears fitting inside a sleaker body and canopy.
A big single gear needs a wider canopy to hide.
Simple as that.
