Darn! Smoke after direct resolder. Please help
Okay, so I decided to solder directly to my ESC to see if it would solve the power issue I was having with my Wild brushless nano. Upon plugging the battery in, the tail blade started spinning and I soon started smelling smoke. I looked at what happened and it looks like the fets got fried right off the back of the ESC. What in the world? I checked my solder joints and they looked okay. The only thing I found, which may have also happened during the burn was one of the motor solders came undone. I did notice when I had the solder off, that the green outer coating around the solder joint on the right side where the red is connected to the control board was missing or widened. Still, none of the solder looks like it crossed. There is a full flow of solder from that red connection to that little fet that is underneath it. Just the top connector. On looking at one of my other boards, though, it looks like the trace underneath connects that directly to that connection anyway. Maybe I'm wrong and that's my problem. Just thought I'd see what you guys think. Bummer, I'd really like to get this thing flying like it's supposed to.

Did you have any double sided tape holding the ESC in place and did it cover the entire ESC? I see some in one of the pics but nothing in others.

Yes, I did have double sided. It covered the entire esc. 3 fets were stuck to it underneath after they melted off.

Solved...partly
Okay I figured out what boneheaded mistake I made. I soldered the battery connector on BACKWARDS. Now to figure out if I destroyed my 3 in 1, too, or if it was just the ESC that was sacrificed.

Perhaps you could either edit your original post or delete the pictures, in case someone else uses them as a reference and makes the same error.
I mean no disrespect and feel your pain having made the same mistake in the past.

dang I did this too today
3n1 still works just looks like a FET is fried.
Could I just replace FET or is there usually more damage done. I can just buy a new escape for $20. I was really looking forward to the extra power and I was starting to have cutout issues. |

pics
I made a telescope that I lay my phone on and use the camera as the screen when soldering. Have 10x 15x and 25x lenses. Works surprisingly well.
looks like a chip that is burnt, can anyone tell what looks damaged? The chip that looks burnt has D66 on it. Where could I find a replacement? |
