Default disposing of my lipo

So I had a bad crash today & looks like i punctured a cell in my 6s 5000 battery

It's still 85% charged, so what should I do? Use my PL6 to discharge outside then put in salt water?

I always drive a screwdriver into them (its fun) and when all the action is over just put in the trash.

If that's the only damaged cell, got any use for a 5S 5000? Lower-HS flying on a single-pack heli, etc? You can open the pack and remove just the damaged cell.

If the whole thing is destined for the trash, you should be able to use your PL6. Don't connect the balance lead, select NiMH or NiCd mode, and tell the charger to discharge to 0V, or as close as it will let you.

The energy stored in LiPos drops off really fast when they go below 3V/cell. So I wouldn't worry about it too much if you can't get the whole pack all the way down to 0V. Getting all 6 cells even to 6V total would likely mean the cells are pretty much fully-discharged.

Thanks guy's, I cut the connector off & put it in a bucket of salt water,... at least I got a years use out of it, but I'm sure it had at least another year or 2. Crashing a big heli isn't very fun!

Salt water doesn't work reliably and may leave some cells charged with no easy way to discharge them.

Hooking up a small lightbulb (or several in series if needed) and leaving until completely flat also work.

It is much less spectacular, but probably safer (do it outside just to be sure).

That's exactly how I do it. I have two bulbs that can be configured in series for up to 6s or parallel for up to 3s.
