400 feet? I thought this hasn't been approved... and I hope it doesn't.

We will not have any problems with the FAA so long as:
  • All flights are non-commercial and hobby oriented
  • All flights never exceed 400 feet AGL
  • All flights are 3nm or more distant from a commercial airport, unless the FDO has been contacted in advance.

We are currently fly according to AC 91-57, linked here:

http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/...ia/ac91-57.pdf

Section 3, part C (written in 1981!) says:

Quote:
Do not fly model aircraft higher than 400 feet above the surface.
Note the period at the end of the sentence.

If we decide to fly according to AMA regulations, exceeding the 400ft FAA restriction, then we are required to have a buddy box system, and a pilot in charge on the master Tx flying via direct observation.

We can't cherry pick.

This is also what's making the yet to be approved "New" regulation such a PITA. The FAA thinks we have been abiding by the 400ft agl restriction!

Default My FPV Piloting Adventures Movie

Here's a short movie video of my FPV piloting.

Enjoy....I think it's one of my better videos.

Bravo, nice... I think you are right... it's probably the best video you have made BUT the first one you posted here was more impresive to me because all of it was new, chaing the cars, the desert, etc. Do you know what I mean? If I have to think about it, yes, this one is a better video specially passing over the parked cars... that was cool.

Ok, that getting pretty damn good now!

My only tiny comment would be to use a better codec / bitrate. It got a little blocky there for a bit, and YouTube doesn't seem to care about file size..

Default Flying Trex 600 over the Grand Canyon

Flying a Trex 600 Heli over the East Rim of the Grand Canyon in FPV. I wanted to be closer to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon but it turns out that RC flights are illegal within the National Parks boundary unless you get written permission from the parks superintendent so I settled on a good location just outside of the Nation Park near Tuba City .

I think I know the area you're talking about, and I just wanted to say, if it's on Navajo land, please get at least verbal permission from the Navajo~ they generally don't mind respectful use of the land in their care (they don't see the land as theirs), but for the most part they are a very private people and few would like to see outsiders abuse the land commercially. Show them what you're doing and they'll be as interested as anyone would.

By the way, amazing stuff. I really want to do the same!

Default Raw Waterfall HD video

I need to get some better video software so I can edit HD videos but in the meantime here's a raw un-edited HD video from a cheap Aiptek + HD camera. My favorite shot is from 3:11 to 5:00 and of course my kids climbing the rocks. I'm using my new bungee anti-vibe camera mount in this video and it worked great for getting rid of waves and ripples most HD heli videos have. Next I will put the Aiptek settings at 60 frames a second to smooth out the HD video even more.

Thanks Savage, I use to have the rates set at 75% but there at 100 now just in case I get into trouble...and I do get into trouble..lol. Once you get it out in the open it will go much easier...get altitude..focus on a distant object and away you'll go...just don't go to fast or to far at first. Good luck my friend and let us know how your doing.

I did get my new modded 600 ESP finished a couple of weeks ago. Here's a video from it's maiden flight in the Mojave Desert.
