Default How do you mount you 808 keyfob cam ?

I got a 808 keyfob cam with plans of using it on my brushless mcpx's but I have come to realize my flying style and the balance troubles makes it not worth my effort. So I gave the cam to my son to use on his mqx. As of now he is just using Velcro on the bottom of the battery tray. The trouble is with this setup the cam is upside down, and hit's the ground when landing. So how do you all mount your keyfob cam's ?

Pic's would be helpful

i am wondering the same thing myself. i have tried under the battery but the quad seems to be very unstable when flying around but this could be due to split booms (will find out soon) and also on the top of the quad. doesnt sit as well on top but seems to be a bit more stable so far. i am using those velcro straps to fasten it. also regarding the video orientation, you can change this in the setup program that is downloadable.

read the above link and you can download from there.

Get a McDonalds large soda.cut the bottom off, punch 4 holes and make 4 slits, and use it for a canopy. Put velcro on the top and on the camera and your vids will be right side up:

I popped holes where the fake turbines are in the stock canopy and zip tied it to the top.

Do not waste your time. The mQX is not well suited to carrying any extra weight.

I have yet to see any video filmed from an mQX that was not a complete waste of everyone's time.

I beg to differ. Mine carries my cam just great and it isn't an 808.

These are not bad...the last one is awesome clarity...depends on the camera, not the MQX.

I am sorry but I find those boring. The third one might be an exception.

The problem is that the mQX is nearly at it's comfortable carrying weight when stock. The 808 adds weight, the mQX does not handle extra weight well and most videos show that. I tried flying aggressively with a 808 and it was a complete waste of time.

YMMV

it seems that mounted on top works best for stability. must be something relating to some sort of pendulum effect when it is mounted below the mqx. it seems fine underneath for hovering, but when trying to fly properly i think it is the as3x system making corrections that it thinks it needs.

I have the #16 KeyChain cam. Works great. Its amazing the amount of techno punch those things have.
For now I just put a tab of velcro on the top of the stock canopy. It works pretty well not having a flat surface. If I press it down on the sides a little to get some more purchase it's pretty well attached. Just need to fool with it a second to get it to sit level.

I have a couple of canopies coming from Ebay that have a flat top I'm hoping will be a good platform. Will try and post pics when they come in.

I'm hoping the new GWS props will help with some more thrust. You can definitely feel the 17g of the Keychain fob. I've been thinking about some other ridiculous mods to decrease weight so I can run the camera without affecting performance.

Hi - a couple more pics of my "sideways battery" body/mount. You can save 2.4 grams by removing the bottom shell from the 808 ( this is a #9). The velcro on the bottom of the battery is so I can just remove the rubber bands & fix the 808 to my ball caps brim for external vids.
Blades show up in the very top corner of the video. Total weight (no batt) is 76 grams. Addt'l pics in the Pic's sticky.

I know popular opinion says the stock body sux but I don't think it's too bad, or maybe I'm just easily satisfied. Who am I kidding? Truth is I used the stock body because I lack the creativity and ambition to design my own. So using the stock body I made a plaster cast. I took the cast and went to town with some sandpaper until I had a nice flat spot at an angle that looked about right for the camera. I put it on my little home made vacuum table and formed some .020" thick thermoplastic to it.

I used a zip tie to hold the camera down.

The sad part is now that I have tried it I realize the downward angle is a bit off. I get the tips of the blades showing up about mid screen. The cool thing is it's a little more durable at about double the thickness of the stock. With a little more sanding I should be able to get it right. It's also very stable.

Just a suggestion flyin mike. Roll up some thin double sticky carpet tape and put it under the bottom of the cam in the back. Replace the cable strap. It's not going to take much to make a wedge.
