Default For people balancing 2 3s packs with a TP210v......

So today I did my first flight ever with my Trex 500(yay!!) and it went great.

I flew with 2 3s TP Extreme's.... and after my flight I plugged them into my 210v Balancer and got an error.... I clicked onto the balancer screen on my 1010c charger and noted that the balancer detected my packs as a 5s pack! Confused, I disconnect and reconnected my packs to the balancer many times, but it kept giving me the same error and detecting my "pack" as a 5s.

Finally, I tried reversing the balancing plugs into the 210v(I took the plug from "group a" and plugged it into "group b" and vise versa)... and it worked normally! It detected my pack as a 6s pack, and started balancing immediately!

Just wanted to give this information out, encase anyone runs into the same problem.

Same here, tried it a couple of times with the same results, now I've marked the plugs with a Sharpie so I get it right the first time. I think the key is that the pack on the right hand side of the balancer has to have the positive lead going into the 1010c for the circuit to work right.

Eurylokhos has it. Same results here. Group b has to go str8 to the positive lead on the 1010.

I dont agree on a certain pack having to be on the positive lead to the 1010c... I had this problem when I hadnt even hooked either pack up to the 1010c yet, I just had them connected to the balancer, and the balancer connected to the charger. I hooked up the charging lead after I figured out the problem.

It's got nothing to do with the charger, I'm saying hook the positive lead to the charger because that's the easy thing to identify. What you're really doing is completing the series connection between the 2 batteries by having the positive of the left pack to the negative of the right pack so the balancer recognizes it as a single 6s pack. If you just hook up the 2 packs to the balancer without connecting the 2 batteries with a series connector it won't work either, you have to make that series connection to complete the circuit.

It's just a lot easier to say "Hook up the positive directly to the 1010c" than it is to explain the completion of the series circuit.

I posted this on the -ryder- forum, but looks like it can be useful here to:

You must be sure that the pack hooked to group B of the charger is the one with the red main lead going to the 1010 charger.
As long as you wire it exactly as the picture, it works no problem.
Flew 18 flights today on the 500 and charged just like shown above.
Here is a better pic of how to charge them.
I do not use a serial connector, instead have the packs wired in series.
Same thing, but much cleaner without all those extra connections.

The negative of the main connector is always group a. or the main positive is group b.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm saying that it doesnt necessarily make a difference.

I hooked it up to the balancer one way, it didnt work, hooked it up the other way, and it did work... all without EVER connecting the main leads to my series harness, OR my charger.

I have a hard time believing it worked at all without the batteries tied in series. Mine need to be connected in series, but not to the charger. I do need to place the balancer plug associated with batteries 4-5-6 in the Group B socket.

Yours must be special, because just plugging both packs in to my balancer doesn't work without a series connector. There's really no variables here, you plug it in, and it either works or it doesn't, and mine doesn't, and I don't see how yours could, since without a series connector between the packs, the circuit is never completed. Maybe there was a revision at some point in the balancer that could make that possible, but according to TP's own balancing plug diagrams, what you are saying isn't possible.

On other balancers you WILL short and blow pins.... How do I know this? Read this HUGE thread on how important it is to get it hooked up right!
The 210 is well proptected BUT this does not mean all baklancers are!

Well regardless of any diagrams or anything else, I just tested it again to be sure... without the deans connectors hooked up to anything, I plug the balancer plugs in one way and it doesnt work, another way and it does work.

Repeatable with 2 different sets of packs.

Also, my 210v balancer is now over a year old.

Yep that is my point posting the thread above... There is ONLY one way to hook them up properly....

MAN I feel we will have this discussion 10,000 times in this forum over the next year or so....

I feel a video in my boots

I feel the same way Bob... this thread will dissapear in 1 week or so and the question will get asked at least once every two weeks from now to the end of time.

It might be a very good idea to make a video so we can just link to that in the future.

You should also mention how you have to shave the top of the balancing plug off for it to fit in the slot on the balancer!
