Default PROGDISC will be discontinued

Google translation from the German news section:

Quote:
Some time ago we started developing a new programming and update unit (Order No. 9311) to replace the PROGDISC. This will be operated customer friendly from the PC and also be much cheaper. This move reflects the desire of our customers who have long wanted a successor to the PROGDISC.
Quote:
We regret to inform you that our PROGDISC is sold out faster than expected. Another production is not possible on the basis of obsolete components.
Once the new unit is available and the price has been fixed, we will inform you.
That was a surprise.

Helidirect.com still has a few.

I just hope kontronik will continue to support the progdisc along with new unit. 2 Kosmik 200 HV's plus progdisc wasn't cheap.

I hear that just worried if I purchased it will end up just a waste of money now that I hear it's going to be discontinued. That would really suck considering 125.00.

Default PROGDISC will be discontinued

That does suck considering I've just splurged on one. Dammit!

PC based? I wonder if it will use the master port or the USB port to connect to the Kosmik. Unless something was missed in the google translation though if it is PC based that would leave Kosmik owners no small handheld unit to program at the field with.

I just purchased a Kosmik 200 and a Progdisc a week ago and after using the Progdisc a couple of times I'm looking forward to seeing the replacement. The Progdisc is a bit clumsy IMO with the tilt & one button interface; while it works my take is that the designer was having just a little too much fun and was being "clever" with the tilt interface rather than focusing on what was really important.

just because they are discontinuing them doesn't mean you cant use them if you already have one so not a waste of money really if you just bought one.

What do you need one for at the airfield?

I'm keeping mine just because I have two non-Pro Jives to support, but that is the only reason.

I am a big fan of my Kontronik ESC's and motors.

Kontroniks is really good at making great bulletproof hardware.

The ProgCards and ProgDisc are not up to the same standards of excellence

I think they are starting to get the hang of User Interfaces. The Android BT application was half decent which was a big jump the right direction. Hopefully the upcoming PC application will be another jump.

If I were to take a guess, I would say they have historically had strong hardware engineers, and they let the hardware engineers write all the software and design the interface devices.

Given a choice I'll take their strengths and buy their high quality ESC's and motors, but ideally I'd love all the ways I interact with my Kontronik equipment to be at a high level of excellence.

No need to fret about the ProgDisc being discontinued, if you have yours now it will work with future released ESC's such as the new Jive Pro, etc...As far as I have heard, the new one when available will not really have any more features. They are no longer are able to source a component needed to manufacture the current ProgDisc.

As for getting a ProgDisc before they run out, HeliDirect still have a few left.

Thank goodness for that. It's an expensive and cumbersome piece of equipment.

Agreed, however notice that he says they are just going to replace it with something very similar that uses a different component.

The good news was the USB configuration software. That is long overdue.

It has to do with the bluetooth chip in the older apple products not being compatible.

You'll have to ask Apple about that!
Most of their stuff is not compatible with the rest of the world...just the way they want it.
