Logo 400SE My New Love!
Many thanks to Matt Blaisdell of Team Mikado, and Bryan Barrow at Mikado USA for helping me get a great deal on a new 400SE with a new NEO.
What a great building and flying heli! I transferred all my electronics from an old Trex 500 ESP FBL conversion to this 400SE. Delightful to fly, smooth as butter, and with Vbar Control and the NEO, a piece of cake to set up and tune. Setup: Ice 75 and KDE 500MX power system, both discontinued and available for peanuts. Hobbywing RPM sensor to use the NEO governor. Gryphon Ploaris BEC set at 6V. Not the most robust BEC. Optipower Back Up Guard and BEC Guard perfectly tame the fluctuations in the BEC and deal with the Servo EMF. Without those my logs are voltage nightmares due to the servos. KST 515 all around. Great performing servos but these babies will produce a ton of back EMF and mess up your power supply unless you have a really robust BEC or deal with the servo voltage issues with an optipower type solution. Stock gearing and blades. Great heli. Yes, my wiring is ugly but I have been enjoying this heli too much to ground it for a hairdoo. |

The other fascinating thing about the 400SE is how low the vibrations are.
It has lower vibes than my super silent and smooth running Goblin 380s as measured by the vbar vibration sensor data in real time and the amount of raised vibration levels in the flight logs. That could also be a function of how well isolated the NEO is from vibration on the different helis, rather than true vibration present. |
