May Take my X50 to the Shooting Range
Just built a new X50TT flybarless but I'm about to shoot the damn thing.
Think I hydro locked it on first start attempt. Once it locked, my metal fan upgrade stripped out so time to drop the motor out. So I have a new fan on order and decided to at least break the engine in on my test stand. Started once and ran for a few minutes until the needle valve vibrated out. Cleaned it off and put it back in at 3 turns, 3 1/4, 2 1/2,.........and it goes on. It won't start. Changed glow plugs. No change. Changed fuel. No change Changed fuel tank and all tubing. No change Moved from 10% to 30% and added the shims. No change Burnt finger on glow plug. No change but lots of cussing. The needle valve as the O ring. I made sure all parts were there but I can't get thing thing to run at all. Now I recall why I left nitros in the first place. All I want to do is fly and not mess with this POS engine! |

Seems like it might have been operator error, not x50 error. Did you clean the carb well?

What type of engine? Does it have compression? Lots of questions here........give us more info to help you out with

Thinking of tearing the carb apart to make sure I haven't introduced something that may foul it. Even though I tried two different fuels, I may buy a new jug but all of my other engines run ok with it. Not sure what else to do. |

If you use a piece of clean fuel tubing attached to the fuel inlet and try to blow into it it should barely allow air flow at 1/5 throttle.

I'm getting air through.
I'm going to run to the hobby store and pick up a few new plugs and new fuel and give it a go. Thanks! |

Make sure your glow plug igniter is charged. I'm sure it is, but you never know. What plug are you using in the engine?

I have good glow. Using the thunder tiger plug that came with it. Also tried an OS #6.
Noticed this morning that when it tries to fire, smoke comes out the muffler and the carb. I've never seen that before. Like I said, it ran until the needle vibrated out of the engine. Wondering if I'm missing a part. The O ring is there and appears to be the only part that could be removed. |

Problem solved. Purchased an OS50. It runs.
What a waste of a weekend. |

I got the engine running
Picked up a couple of OS#8 plugs, took the carb completely apart again and sprayed it out thoroughly with carb spray. I probably introduced a particle when I put the needle valve back in. Ran half a gallon through it last night and it seems reliable now. No hating on the X50. Just frustration! Thanks for the suggestions. R/Avi |
