Default How much does your Protos weigh?

I brought my mail scale home from work and it occurred to me that I had not weighed new Protos yet. See I like numbers, numbers like weights, and I was interested to see what number my scale would tell me when I sat my new super light heli on it. Lets just say I was a little surprised to see that the number was a little higher than I expected. MSH advertises the Protos with 6s pack at 1520g and with 7s A123 at 1700g. By comparison my scale informed me that my Protos weighs 1320g minus battery and 1750g with.

My setup is pretty normal

Plastic Protos w/stock motor, canopy and blades
3x s9650mgs on cyclic
CC Ice 75A
Mini-G + s9254 on tail
AR6200
Hyperion VX 2600 packs

Yes the mg servos add weight and so does the full sized tail servo. Yeah the Ice 75A is heavy. The lightest 6s pack I can find anywhere is is 340g, 64g less than my packs. So there is all of that but how can it add up to 230g or over half a pound!?!?!?

All I can think is that MSH must have seriously shopped for some light parts to get low numbers like that.

My numbers on my 2 Proti:

Protos #1
- Stock plastic kit
- Stock motor/ESC
- SAB blades
- MSH FG canopy
- AR7000
- HS-85MG cyclic
- Futaba 520/9257
- Hyperion VX 2600 6S

Weight: 1542g

Protos #2 FBL
- Stock plastic kit
- Stock motor
- CC80 w/ CCBEC
- Radix blades
- MSH FG canopy
- 9650 cyclic
- 9257 tail
- Mini VBar
- Hyperion VX 2600 6S

Weight: 1546g

After loosing the flybar parts, I was a little suprised to see that the FBL one weighs more than stock.

The original weight advertised by MSH was when 25C was the hot pack. 30-45C were not available, so MSH did testing with 18C FP Evolite packs.

The 85mgs weighs 4g less than plastic geared 9650s and 12g less than the MKS 9660 (which I assume are similar to the mg upgraded 9650s). The 9254 weighs 23g more than the 9257. The AR7000 weighs 4g more than the AR6200. Otherwise they should be the same. ESC weighs the same and gyro should be very close. The differences add up to 59g. So either I am missing something or one of our scales is off.

I'm curious now too...

Try this:
Weigh your Hyperion pack.

I got 402g on mine with Anderson Power Poles.
Stock weight according to the Hyperion Spec sheet is 404g. Pretty close.

Good idea.

My 2600s with straight 3.5mm bullets, probably lighter than your PPs, show 425g on my scale. So maybe my scale it high? Or maybe yours is low?

My FBL carbon, with a BLS251, is 1770 grams, with a zippy 2600 battery (461 grams with the velcro etc). A 2600 Hyperion I also fly with weighs 409 grams, so that would take it down to 1720.

I have a z-power motor which may weigh more than the stock MSH motor. The tail servo is more than a 9257 and I have a carbon wrapped boom that is heavier than the stock boom, I think the carbon frame weighs more than the plastic one?

Mine has:

Plastic frame
Hitec 5245MG
Spartan / 9257
SK360
AR7000
Jazz 80-6-18

With a Kong Power 2600 and Fusono FG canopy AUW is 1624g
With plastic canopy it's 1598g

KP 2600 = 387g
I also have two Polyquest 2700 packs at 433g, so AUW with those is 1670g.

Just for interest, AUW with the 7S A123 packs is 1794g (558g pack).

My little scale shows 1215 without the o-rings, with the hyperion that would be 1626.

Stock: plastic,motor, blades, fg canopy
phoenix 60, powerpoles
sportbec
mks metal all round
spartan
ar6200
voltage stepdown
pads of dualoc here and there for mounting satellite, eagletree

dang, i hope it's sunny tomorrow... all this talk about light helicopters and their cool setups is making me antsy.
