IKON Firmware bug ?
Hello,
Well I put this ikon into service about April of this year. I must say it has performed very well. I have performed about 3 upgrade to the firmware with no issues, aside from the overspeed issue, until now. Fri the 10th I downloaded the latest firmware. bench tested what I could all checked good. Sat performed flight testing all checked good Sun final testing and well I think I found a bug. 1st test, Flying in normal mode with GOV engaged came down to about 6" off the deck hit TH, landed let heli settle down. Turned off TH began increase on throttle and GOV never engages 2nd test Reset/power down radio and heli, restarted performed same test except I fully landed then hit TH. Turned off TH began increase on throttle and GOV never engages 3rd Test Reset/power down radio and heli, restarted Brought engine up to speed on the deck, GOV engages, while on the deck I hit TH, Turned off TH began increase on throttle and GOV never engages. At this point I figured there has to be an issue with the firmware Any suggestions or ideas Thank you in advance |

When you say gov never engages, do you mean the heli doesn't spool up? Or it starts spooling but the gov just doesn't take over?
If your heli doesn't spool then I am having the same problem with an older firmware, but for me it's intermittent, sometimes it will re-engage and sometimes it won't. Sometimes I can get through a whole battery of test&tune without the problem, other times I have to re-initialize every time hit TH. Either way I will be watching here to maybe solve my problem too.

Running the latest firmware, and I've never had a problem with the governor.
Even did a few autorotation approaches with bailouts this weekend (hit TH at altitude, then flip out of TH at the last minute to spool back up to 2200rpm before I hit the ground). I did notice that this doesn't always work on the bench with the blades off, but I can say that it works flawlessly with the G700C in the air. No idea why. Perhaps there's a set of conditions that must be met for the governor to engage that aren't explained in the software properly?

Head speed one now needs to be set to 40% throttle not 30%. You can verify that on the gov screen (tab 11). Don't know if that's your problem but it's something to double check.

MstngGT,
Is this on a nitro machine or electric? Can you share your setup information? Would like to help but need more information

Jomaba4308,
Its like the heli doesn't spool up. I move the stick past where it should be up on the gov but it never picks up mamartin, This is mounted in a New Synergy N7 (April time frame) no crashes. My setup is very basic as I don't like big changes at once. Throttle is as follows: N - 0,31-31 I1- 59.5 FLAT Thanks |

If with your N 0,31-31 curve (around 25 at hovering?), the rotor speed is not enought to engage the governor, raise the 31 value to 40 so the speed raise and gov can engage. Very simple. Very easy. In a nitro machine, the motor speed can change for many cause. Altitude, fuel mix, temperature, pressure, and so on. If your motor speed is on the limit, raise this limit. |

I had that problem, rpm got up to 1300 instead of the programmed 2k. I fixed it by recalibrating the esc with the rpm sensor unplugged.

The throttle servo setup and the way it all works together is a bit different than how your referring to.

Most likely your nitro gov is not seeing the correct signal to enable it to engage. If your system is on the most up to date of the firmware update (the firmware revision # will end with .053 if it is) and if you havent already played with the ramp up parameters you might try the following: Set Ramp up to about 5 ( between 3 and 8 most likely) Initial spool up to 1 Deadband should be at 0 And then try to do a typical "soft start" with your N7 same as a person would with an electric. While at an idle flip your Idle up switch on up to #1 or # either and enjoy how smoothly it ramps itself on up You have to lower the ramp up value Because there is a point when they hand off from spool up to ramp up before it is actuall up to set headspeed and if you keep it at the default 15 with a nitro it will try to increase speed too quickly at that point and most times stall the motor. Lowering the ramp up resolves that. Its a really neat thing to watch a system soft start a nitro motor

Ok finally got around to testing the gov at 40% and that seems to take care of the issue I was experiencing. Although when I come back from idle up it seems to ramp back up slower then when I first start up in normal mode. Hopefully Ill get to meet some of you guys at IRCHA and maybe I can get this totally resolved
Thanks |
