Default Protos Belt problems?

I'm considering a Protos 500, which I think I'll eventually put into a scale MD500 body. I'm looking for a mechanically RELIABLE design-- if I dumb thumbs that's my own problem-- but I really don't want to deal with mechanical issues if I can avoid it. I would sacrafice performance for reliablity given the scale build.

I've read some threads about folks having problems with the Protos 500 belt coming off. Let me know your experience.

As long as you tension the belt properly, you won't have any problems. With scale flying, your belt should last you more than 2 to 3 hundred flights.

My current belt has over 140 flights, one crash and countless hard landings on it. It has survived 2 pairs of tail blades that got too scraped up to fly and has not skipped a single cog this whole time. I've only readjusted the tension on it once since install.

One of mine currently has 448 flights but it definitely needs to be changed soon.

Overall no problems, but did have belt derail. I would put blame on extended damage from crash (which I had a few, to say the least) After a couple repairs, noticed belt popping off upon landing or on occasion quick deceleration. After pulling hair out of my balding head, realized bad, notchy bearing in idler pulley and caused some wear in the idler bkt thus causing irregular tracking. Have had no problems since. Overall very reliable drive system and it can take a lot of flight time with minimal maintenance. 1 of the reasons I started a scale with the Protos

The Protos 500 belt system is very reliable. I'm planning to do a custom belt drive mod when I get my 600 size heli.

The P700 is going to be too pricey for my budget.

WOW! If you do, I'd love to hear about it. I'm considering doing something like this to my Pantera 600. I think it would be possible to do a Warp-like transmission on most Align-type systems.
