Default Convert G5 to FBL

Hi,

What are the current options and parts needed to get a flybarred G5 made over into an FBL heli?

Thanks,
Mike

It used to come as a flybarless kit; that's what I got.

Don't know, but you could probably fit most copterx or trex 450 heads maybe with some different pitch links.

In the long run it's probably cheaper to forget it and get an X3. That's what I did (I'm going to try FPVing my G5 when I get round to finishing the set up).

FPV flying the G5 with a fly bar head? Or the FBL head that came with it?

I'll have to look and see how much the parts to convert it to FBL would cost.
I have a large box of G5 parts so I'd prefer to remain on the G5 and not start up another model.

Only flybarless here.

Yeah, I have a box with quite a few G5 parts... but can still never find the parts I need. Plus I've broken many main gears, a couple of frames, the tail badly twice and damaged a few links, as well as shredding some booms and breaking a belt, and bending a spindle. The good news is that many Align 450 parts are compatible.

The X3 flies a lot better, I've broken the boom a couple of times and the original landing gear several times, and cracked a GF frame once, but not so much else. With my current set-up I haven't actually broken anything in a while with many hard landings.

So my G5 parts sit unused and mostly unwanted!

If we were local, we could trade parts until the last part is consumed

I know there are better helis' out there, the X3 is a good example.

I suppose this reflects most of what I have.
The 9303 for a Tx.
My car, a 1999.
The bicycle, a 1983 Trex touring frame (yes, steel).

I think I'll keep it as a fly bar.

I picked up a used FBL unit for not much and so that was the inspiration to look into a conversation. Since I have the electronics.

I should just start up on an FBL frame that was designed for FBL And just fly the G5 as-is.

OH, one more question, I have 3 motors and they all have vibes, the balance is terrible.

I would consider a different motor (new) to get away from the vibes.

The Outrage motors were terrible. I've been using an Align 450MX 1700kV for almost 4 years now without any problems. It's a perfect motor for the G5. Just keep in mind that it has a 3.5mm shaft compared to the 3.17mm that was the norm back in 2008-2010.

Great!

Does the pinion mesh with the G5's main gear or does that mean using a different main gear too?

I wondered why I would have all 3 motors with bad vibes.

Thanks.

You don't need a different main gear. Align has a 12T mod .5 pinion for 3.5mm shafts, that's what I've been using. I'm not sure if they still make this motor, but probably you can still find one if you shop around. The new Dominator 460MX has the kV a bit high at 1800, but it's still usable.

The 450MX 1700 is around 20g heavier than the Outrage motor, so you'll have to change the position of the tail servo on the tail boom accordingly. The 460MX 1800 is even heavier.
