3gx firmware update problem please please please help

I successfully downloaded the 3gx v3.1 firmware from the align website and when I went to my files to open it my computer said this app cannot run on your pc, to find a version for your pc check with the software publisher, so after that little mistake I read that I have to open it through the 3gx software thing with the 3gx all hooked up to the computer so I did that and when I click on the firmware upgrade link it takes me to my files and the v3.1 just isn't there it only shows the v1.1 which is my current software, so what am I doing wrong and how can I fix it also my computer uses windows 8 so im not sure if that matters but this is really pissing me off especially since align doesn't do anything to help you through the process

do you have more than one version of the 3gx software installed on your pc? if so you may be running the wrong one even though 3.1 is installed. delete any old versions and then reinstall 3.1
