Default Logo 550SX officially released

The Logo 550SX is now official! Here is Kyle Dahl's intro to the new heli:

[ame]http://vimeo.com/61227196[/ame]

Pricing can also be found at Mikado's website:

http://shop.mikado-heli.de/LOGO-550-...&c=6898&p=6898

Does anyone know whether it uses the same frames as the existing Logo 500 / 600?

Thats why I got such a good deal on my Logo 500 . Oh well I dont really need a 2500 HS anyway. I am flying 553's at 2300 with no problems. Would like to try the 95 tails though. Wonder how much it is going to be for the boom, frame adaptor and tail kit. Would be the wrong color though.

Dave,

Can you tell us the AUW for Kyle's set up? Looks like a well balanced machine with great HS range.

Thanks!

Default Logo 550SX officially released

Sold! This is exactly what I was looking for.
I love how they designed it to share lipos with larger helis, to me this shows a company that is really listening.

Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Is the 550 really different from the 500? I'm think of getting a Logo 500 but the release of the 550 has confused me about what to get.

The 550sx includes the upgrades from the 600sx. The integrated head block with the shorter main shaft, counter bearing, beefier tail and a beefier 22mm tail boom. One thing I always hated about the 500 was that narrow 20mm boom. The belt rode too close to it and the carbon tail case always seemed to have issues staying tight. Another great thing about a 22mm boom is you can cut down just about any other heli's boom if the Mikado one is out if stock.

Many have said the counter bearing isn't needed on a 550. From the perspective of the power delivered to the gear that is probably true. But on the 550 it serves another important function, it keeps the pinion from puncturing the pack in a crash. With the counter bearing I no longer need to worry about strapping a carbon plate to the pack to prevent possible pinion damage.

To answer your question, if it was my money I would get the 550sx.

Thank you, that is very interesting. I'l going to seriously consider the 550sx as my next heli.

Apart from the revamp head, wider boom and carbon tail? No, not really. Mikado are evidently just trying to realign their naming convention to the industry standardised class size naming by using 550 instead of 500. no doubt the other L500 kits will get renamed to 550 as and when they get revamps in the future.

I am sure there has been a lot of pressure from other makers as they keep cranking up the headspeed as that seems to be the new normal (never undestood this since 2200rpm on 550 is very quick). Its nice to see just a few bolt on changes that will level the playing field at this point and the pricing is very attractive.

2200rpm is not very quick on a heavier 550 like my E5. Some run E5's as high as 2700.

When people get used to that speed they see it as a weakness that a 550SX "only" goes to 2500 rpm because they don't realize that a lighter heli takes less effort to move quickly.

What people fail to realize is that a heli needs to be taken as a whole when looking at it's capabilities.

I'd much rather run a few hundred rpm less, get more battery life and put less stress on whole heli.

I'm glad I tried out the E5, but I definitely see a 600SX in my future. In my eyes the Logo 600 is still Mikado's flag ship.

The L500 with a 2200 HS is quicker and more agile than my Trex 550 with a 2400 HS. The Logo flies much better. I weighed both and the Trex was only a little heavier than my Logo but it just feels so much lighter and agile in the air. I dont really see the average guy needing 2500 HS with a Logo. It would be nice to have the power in the wings when you want it though. Maybe from a Marketing stand point it makes more sense to people that have never flown a Logo it seems more updated and appealing. The tail and boom is a nice upgrade though.

You are right, I might not need 2500 HS with 550SX but I want it. I usually fly my X5 with HS 2200, but every now and then it's fun to use 2400 HS. So I definetely want 2400 from my 550SX.

Pinion coming with the combo is quite small (13t). I checked Mr Mel's HS calc and 17t is required to get 2400 with Vbar/Brain governor.
