Default Review - RCRotors New indestructable gear for the 500

OK these are almost out so I am told by Helifreak user rubbersoul.
He sent me several sets for a few of us to try locally here and test. Duke600 and Fireup. Anyway we had been testing them for about 2 weeks now. I have not crashed so no good tests from me but Duke600 really stress tested these last weekend!
Trust me they ARE almost indestructable!

Anyway you should be able to get them soon from here:
www.rcrotors.com

And here is my review video!
http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=...me=500gear.wmv

FYI we are now testing the 450 and 600 versions of this gear so stay tuned.

Enjoy,
Bob

Thanks for the review Bob. I feel sorry for Duke600 and Fireup for their mishaps. There is nothing more credible than raw uncontrolled user tests. Many thanks to you guys!

So, what are the 450 struts going to look like? It would be cool if the 450 could finally have some "angled" 500-style struts.

They will look like stock. Sorry no angled design.

Ah, okay. No big deal

So on with the questions...
What will be the advantage over Gorilla Gear as far as the 450 goes?
Will the colors be darker (not as transparent looking) when you release the product?

Just testing ya

Questions are to be expected.

We will make it available in white, neon green/yellow/orange. The review shows a prototype which looks like glow in the dark. We want it darker and brighter than that. Honestly can't tell how exactly the colors will come out although I have confidence in the witch brewing the chemicals to give us good colors.

I forgot to answer your question about advantage over Gorrilla's product. No advantage except that we will make it available for the 500 and 600 Trex.

This project came out to provide a 500 version of the characteristics of a Gorrilla Gear. It is common knowledge that they have no plans of making it and I wanted one for my 500 and so do a lot of people. And so the 500 version is born. The 450 and 600 version were just the next logical step.

Well just to add.... Not sure how many of you also flew Trex450's? But the gorilla gear was a godsend for the 450 as it seemed almost every crash or a hard landing you broke the gear. Replacement gear every time adds up and it's just another item you don't have to replace, Most people I see flying 450's all have the gorilla gear on them for that reason. Using them on the 450 didn't seem to have any ill effects by breaking something else.

For the 500 I think the benefits will be the same based on what I have seen so far.
Add in KDE's metal bottom plate and Fireup's frame side stiffeners and the thing is almost bullet proof on the bottom of the heli.

Are you planning on making the gear in black?

I am very happy with this Gear. Before I got a hold on these I had purchased 3 sets of the stock because I knew I would be breaking them.
I am testing out the more flexable gear, so the KDE bottom plate and the K2 Frame set is helping out with my mishaps. I think the gear that they are going with will be very good for the stock setups.

I'll keep up my testing, but I feel very confident with the setup I have

Great, and honest and truthful reply. I will be keeping up with these, and will probably purchase the 450 and 500 gear.

Agreed. I use Gorilla Gear on my 450 and it really helps during those windy autos. You're about to set it down, then WHAM! Big gust of wind slams it down ... :o

communicated with the plant and was informed that they "might" be able to squeeze in a few black ones on the first run...of course if this delays the first batch, then the black ones will have to wait their turn.

Hmmm...

This thread seems to be an extension to a similarly titled thread I last responded to last night. Why a new thread on the same subject? I happened to make a couple of observations and a suggestion or to and bingo... here is a new thread on the same thing. Just lacking discussion history.

Someone trying to divert away from practical discussion?

Any chance that a guy in Australia can get a set? They look pretty good. The way my landings are I should be able to give them a real workout!
