Default How long does your motor last?

Curious how many flights you guys are getting on your motors since i've seen a lot of complaints about short motor life. Do you fly back to back or let the motor cool between flights?

I'm on my 3rd motor in about 200 flights. I have trimmed my flights to 3:00 (down from 4:00), which seems to have resulted in longer life on the third motor. Or it's just a coincidence

Here is a poll about motor cooling (doesn't seem to make a difference): https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=460263

I haven't counted how many flights, but it feels like my motor is on it's way out.

I made bit to about 40 flights. Can't even maintain head speed now. I called horizon hobby. They are sending me a new motor. I can't believe they release crap products. Ill never do business with horizon again. I'm done with the cheap plastic stupid crap that everyone buys. I'm a too good of pilot to be screwing with these little micros anyway.

I said the exact same thing when I bought my 130X. It got figured out though.

They sold me a product that they know is a complete failure. I want my money back. And I'll get it!

My first motor lasted 250+ flights and my second motor is now over 200. I think this because I have the motor sitting VERY loosely in the frame. Anytime the blades hit anything the motor pops up out of the frame, disengaging itself, and makes stalling the motor nearly impossible. The brushes in these motors are quite tiny and when stalled burn up quickly.

Can we talk more about this? I'm wondering some things. Is it held in with glue at all?

I cleaned all the adhesive from the frame and it is held in place only by the slight pressure the frame has on the motor. I put a tiny drop of CA on the bottom of the main gear to keep it from sliding down the main shaft. After the blades have come into contact with an object I just push the motor back down to align the gears.

Also; I'm quite hard on the motor during flight, I dont bother with letting it cool down between batterys, have quit lubrication and still no problems.

There definitely is something to be said about having the motor fit loosely in the frame and allowing it to pop up in crashes. The msrx is also notorious for burning out main motors. But I'm still on my first one with 100+ flights. My motor is only held by the pressure in the frame..no glue. On crashing the heli, the motor neatly pops up and disengages the main gear.

Very good tread. Everybody is talking in number of flights, but I find that to be very imprecise thought.

Some time back I got into a discussion with someone and stating I had an average of around 50 fights per motor and he came short of calling me a moron, because he was doing 100 flights with his. Later in another tread he mentionned that he was doing 2minutes flights. I was doing 4minutes flights. So our experience was exacly the same, around 4-4.5 hours of flight time.

How should I vote if I have yet to have a motor failure?

I take these reported numbers with a grain of salt. I'm not sure if everyone is actually keeping a flight log and recording every flight. I do and know exactly how many flights per nano motor. However, my experience has not been positive. I'm on my fifth motor in just over two months. The most flights I have got on a single motor is 97 flights. When this motor goes I'm shelving my nano until I decide to go brushless.
