Default 306B setting for 6S 8000mAH?

Hi Guys, I got this charger to charge a couple 6S 8000mAh batteries for my quadcopter. I'm coming from a Hyperion charger and smaller batteries and the setup on this 306B is a little different than I'm used to.

Please tell me if I've got this straight.

Conservative charging would be 8A correct? How high could I go on the Amperage for charging this battery a little quicker but still conservative? Right now I'm just using the Balanced Charge setting with the balance board. I think both batteries are either 25C or 30C. One's a Turnigy, the other a Turbo Ace.

The manual doesn't say anything about setting the Capacity Cut-off. The default was set to 5000mAh, my assumption is to change this to 8000mAh for these two batteries, yes?

Should the capacity cut-off be matched for each battery I charge? IE, 2200mAh would have 2200mAh cut-off? Or does the voltage reaching it's peak automatically cut the flow... little confused about this part of charging. Seems like the battery would just charge to it's max capacity according to voltage. Would love some clarification here.

Anything else I should consider with the 306B? The manual assumes a fair bit of knowledge by the user... BTW, I have a 25V DC power supply for the charger.

Thanks,

Dennis

You are correct with the 8 amps setting for a 1C charge rate. With the 25V power supply you can charge at up to 30 amps or 1000W, whichever is less. For example the 6S battery will be only capable of 756 watts which is 30 amps.

You will have to look at your batteries to see what the maximum charge rate is. I removed the max milliamperes input setting from my 306B and have it shut off after 120 minutes if there is a battery issue. If you balance charge the charger is trying to bring all cells to 4.20V.

Thanks Paul,

Can I ask how you came up with the number 756 (Watts) for the 6S battery...? I'm guessing there's also a relationship there to the 30 Amps?

Appreciate it, thanks again.

Thanks Paul,

So the 756 (watts) comes from the max voltage that the battery can take, 25.2V X 30Amps (charger max)... is that correct?

One of the batteries, the Turbo Ace, says it can be charged up to 3C... so I really don't want to be above 24 amps anyway right?

I'm also guessing that if I were using a 12V source such as my car battery, I would lose about 1/2 my power... an approx. max Amperage of 15A on the charger... so my charging wattage could only be 378 Watts. Not really sure what it all means... or, why I need to know the charging wattage... but I'm getting there.

Comments and clarification welcome.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Hey Dennis, I believe you are catching on with the intricacies of charger math.

I just picked up a 306b and an 1800w 24v power supply(went big for future).

I want to check before I try it tonight.

Im going to balance charge 4x6s 1300ma at 4c

So 25*1.3*4*4 =520
520/25=28a?

Does that sound right?

And at 4c is that 15 minutes?

Just add up the mah for all the batts in parallel and divide by 1000. That is 1c charge amperage. For 3c, multiply that number by 3. For 5c, multiply that number by 5. It's that simple

This is going to be awsome. The most I've been able to charge 6s is 1a.

Enjoy. If you havent invested in paraboards, don't! Get the squid cables instead. Much easier to deal with. Just my experience.
