800 DFC 160 HV overcurrent or overtemp or?
Hey Guys
I am running a dominator 850 490KV and castle 160 HV set up as per align's instructions other than lower rpm than suggested - instead of 1800/2050/2250 I was at 1650/1750/1850. Last flight (not a 3d guy but like to go fast) i was getting beeps on the ground after flying. Attached is the graph - I was running in idle up 1 - certainly not pushing hard. Things seem to change suddenly at about 375 seconds into the flight. I am noticing (you can hear it) that when I switch from idle up 1 to normal the head speed drops low and then picks back up to set governer speed. Any thoughts?? Thanks |

The beeps, long and short, or short and long, have various meanings, check out the castle literature on their website or your manual if you have it.

160 hv beeps
Thanks, i didn't catch the sequence when it was happening although I think it was a long followed by short - a current warning. What is really concerning me is the sudden increase in current at 375 seconds in the attached log.

JMHO here..
Might be running slower HS may be the root cause of your trouble.. ESC is switching quite a bit more With out knowing your gearing setup..but considering your Norm and Idle 1 are a bit below the norm HS range. If your looking to run lower HS might consider re-gearing to get the proper HS.

Some quick math....
490Kv * 44.4 = 21756 / 9.333 = 2331 * 85% = 1981 HS Or 490Kv * 44.4 = 21756 / 9.333 = 2331 * 90% = 2098 HS Dropping down to 1650 -1750 is going to cause some issues with heat on your ESC

So its best to not dip below 85% ? I was wondering about that myself.

Im running 1600, 1750 and 1950 on mine. The beeps you got were an over current warning. Mine had the same thing. Kinda freaked out until I found out what it was. First thing to check is th PWM setting on castle link. It should be at 12 and not Outrunner mode. Second is overcurrent sensitivity. Set it to 260. Yes, it can take it for short bursts. Also not sure if your headspeed checks out. At max 100% for set RPM I can only get 2150 or so. Double check that your gear ratio is 9.333 or 12 pinion and 120 main gear. All this should keep you from ever hearing that annoying beep again

On Castle Link set RPM function, their lowest recomended is 70%. At 1600 rpm my esc is still relatively cool.
