Default ZXY S2 - HH mode and rudder throw / tail drift

Hi Guys,

Total Newbie questions here guys, please excuse my ignorance.

After building my Tarot 450 Pro and dropping in a ZXY S2 gyro I've been having endless issues with the tail.

1) I can get much rudder throw unless my GYRO settings on DX6 are set to 48% or below. I believe this puts the heli in Rate Mode however. I just flew is for the first major time today, and the tail would just basically rotate itself or not stop rotating once I tried to correct it, I struggled to get it back to the ground in one piece (thank god for all my stupid antics in Real Flight).

2) I've got a constant tail drift which I can't seem to dial out. It could be vbies, but I've tried all different types of blades (which I balanced) and also extra pads etc under the gyro.

3) sometimes the gyro will initialize and the rudder controls are non functional. I have to turn off/on sometimes three times to get the gyro to light up blue and function correctly.

Is this all normal behavior with a ZXY - ie. are these bugs or do I have a potentially faulty one? Is a Robird a more robust / reliable Gyro?

thanks and sorry for all the silly questions. I really just want to get this thing in the air for more than 30 seconds and enjoy some flight time to improve my skills.

For heading hold you need a RED steady light in the S2. Adjust the gyro setting on your tx until you get the red light. Personally I always power up my hell with no main blades on (ideally with no head on at all ) and I confirm the holding capability of the tail. With the hell spun up to speed there is no doubt when the tail is set up correctly as it will resist any attempt to move it. This test is obviously fraught with potential pitfalls .... and I beg you to do it in the clearest space possible with no one in front of you!!

Sorry. Just realized a typo.

I cant get much rudder / servo throw in HH mode. Full range of throw with travel adjusted in tx and gyro sw set to max. is very minimal (I would say it's about 20% of travel compared to rate mode). When I set gyro in tx to 48% (rate mode), I get full throw. But I believe I should fly in HH mode which is tx gyro setting of 50% and above.

I dont know about the HH/Rate issue, but I found that you shouldnt use travel adj in tx to set max servo travel. Setup that in the zyx. When I used tx adj it caused very slow piro.

Also not the same issue, but when I power up, many times I get yellow blinking (and nothing works). I keep powering up till I get red or blue (depending on tx HH/rate mode)
I've never had rudder only not working. I've heard of people having binding issues with satellite rx but that results in goofy response always.
