Default funkey 50 airwolf build questions

using raptor 50 fbl as a base. I am thinking of adding a front hatch on the bottom to change out the flight battery and help with a plug change. also, the top hatch seams like it needs to be separated at the seam by the swash, otherwise the head has to come off for any access. thoughts please

Sounds like a good plan. For the bottom of the body, I would suggest putting a ply floor in it to help with making a good solid base for the chassis to sit on. You could then allow the cut-out for the battery access to be left out of that floor and that would give you material inside with which to help build a retaining system for that hatch. As to the doghouse split, I tried it and the method I used did not work for keeping it locked to the body. Had I put two fasteners for the rear part at the front of that split, it would have never come up through the rotor. I would make sure that you fabricate a former for both front and rear so that alignment pins can be installed to help with holding it firmly in place. This was with an electric conversion. I would make one of the doors operational to give you access to the fuel filler or make one of the rear rocket doors function for that purpose. I am not so sure that with a nitro version, you would need to constantly remove and replace the doghouse but then, I don't have a nitro to base that on, lol. Have fun.

Don

PS: As it turned out in the final build, I left the doghouse in one piece and it didn't create any trouble for access to change the battery of the 600 chassis inside. It really helped that it was flybarless so there was a bit more room for the doghouse to rise and turn 90 degrees.

I like the ply idea, but I already have the rails in, will have to check the alignment with the boom.i am planning to fill the tank with a fitting in the intake.i also am fitting electric retracts, so I have a little more room in the fuse.

update, ply plate worked well. the top hatch will stay 1 pc, I will open it to see the tank filling and turn on the switch. I removed the retracts and servos and installed the e flight electrics instead. much better install/operation, and lighter. I will install a fueling valve in one of the intakes.stay tuned

If you get a chance, some pics would be nice of your retract install.
