PCChip,

I think Floozie was just warning the OP that this hobby can be a big money drain, which if you let it, can be very true.

You are an example to us all however. I am glad you can keep to your $50 a month budget.

Default sorry to rant..if i can't pay 55$ to AMA i can't get help???

I can deal with the AMA memberships costs. It's a problem for me when membership at a local field is even more expensive than that.

I do understand about operating costs, but it does hurt the little guys that are just barely scraping together something to fly.

Operating a field can be pretty expensive and the cost per member is a based on the cost to operate and the amount of members. You've got to factor in field maintenance, cost of equipment, cost of the lease for the land, paying for events, etc. The dues for our club are currently $72/year per person and we need to have over 130 paid members just to break even with our current budget. This hobby is very expensive, but it is a hell of a lot less expensive now compared to what it used to cost. If you think AMA fields are expensive then look at the price to join a gun club...my local gun club is $170/year and, on top of that, you have to pay a $100 fee as a new member.

When you are learning even Micros are minimally 2x what you initially pay in parts for a flying season - assuming you don't lose a board.
