I'm fighting the same debate! Some love the HS-65's, with or without metal gears. Some seem to love the JR DS285's, with or withouot metal gears. I want great centering and precise smooth movements while being a little tougher. The way i understand it, i would need digital for the precision and centering, but the price of the HS-65HB's is hard to beat! especially with all the added torque they offer! I don't know....

Neither.... Hitec HS-55's $13.99 a peice....will fit the stock spots like a glove ...prob one of the most tried and true servos out there...not glitzy, not digital, uses the same power & space but performs 10X's better than the stockers.....

55's are GREAT servos but they are slow and not as durable as hs-65mg, but other than that they are AWESOME servos i use them in lots of planks

I may just go with the 65MG's non digital. I am assuming you can still use sub trim and end points in the radio correct? Im thinking cost savings plus I dont want to use an ext BEC with my align 35G unit, so the standard servos should draw less juice. Looks like the digital and non digital versions have the same travel speed... .14 at 4.8v. Should these fly alot better than stockers?

that is the best path and YES your heli WILL fly WAAAYYYY better, because it will not be slamming into the ground because of a stripped servo

JR 285 either mg or reg.
Doesn't really matter because you can upgrade to the mg anytime you feel like it . Also unlike the Hitec 65 the JR 285's fit without any filing Another thing you have to watch out for with the Hitec 65's is that a lot of people were having problems with the stock ESC going into thermal shut and having to add a separate BEC to correct the problem so thats something to consider depending on your funds.

Anybody running 290g's on the cyclic? I know there was someone on the board who was happy running similar sized Hyperions on the cyclic.
Torque: 13 oz/in @ 4.8V; 16 oz/in @ 6V Speed: .08 sec/60; .07 sec/60 @ 6V Dimensions (WxLxH): .45x.87x.85 Weight: .25 oz

I think i am leaning toward the 5065mg's... best of both worlds, digital and fast on 4.8 volts... .14 sec. Plus a few bucks cheaper than the DS285's ta boot. Decisions, decisions.

the digitals are not needed, the best 450 pilots fly with the analogs and look at the precision of their flying.

I use HS-65HB's. I believe they are the same as the MG's but with karbonite gear(s)?
Never had a prob even after a few heavy duty crashes. |

Has anyone had both the DS285's and the HS-65's? My main concern is high quality centering. I hope both servo's do this well, but i would really like to know. i am hating the sloppy return to center of the stock servo's.

i've stripped 2 hb's 2nd gear in switched to mg my last crash actually busted the front of the gear case off but the gears are still good just need $7. gear case. It's to bad they are hard to install put they take a licking and keep on ticking. Perfect for newbees or people with shakey hands. I love not replacing striped gears all the time and flying is so much easyer

my personal opinion all based on 6v HS-65 fast powerfull decent centering hi current draw needs a lil modding to fit a lil heavier DS285 decent speed ok power perfect centering no mod not much lighter the ds285 has a smother operation than the hs-65 may be due to the speed diffrence with both nylon gears its usually the 2nd one to strip and in both gears are cheap IMO id go with the ds285's insane locked in feel but in any rate no matter what you choose anyservo seems to blow away the stock servos

just pulled the trigger on ds285mg's I want the locked in feel more than speed at this point, and the mg for durabilty... hope they arent too slow on 5.1 volts...:o Used free, long time wait shipping... who cares, thanks to spektrum I wont have a transmitter for a few weeks!

Well scratch that last post, I cancelled my JR order and decided to give the 5065's a try, with thier speed and now being digital, id imagine they will hopefully have that locked in feel too. At this point, alittle bit of frame grinding is the last thing I am worried about
