Default co pilot 2

My co pilot 2 has just arrived, sweet brand new delivered for less than £30..bonus it can help me land my helicopter..
I'm going to get so lazy. On a plus note it's so small and light I reckon a learner could mount this to a 250..he'll it's got nought power

Looks like a sweet deal, Antony. Just did a search for Co Pilot 2 and there´s a shload of different combos and packages. I guess you got the main module only and even that is a bargain for 30. What can the main module do by itself ?

Nothing, really.

Anthony, you'll need at least a main sensor (square one with 4 IR cameras, it's obligatory, as it informs CP2 of the relative position of the horizon), and preferably a vertical one as well (rectangular one with 2 IR cameras; life without it is miserable as you need to do a calibration routine before every flight).

You will also need something to configure CP2, which means at least USB interface, which is good for both firmware upgrades and programming/configuration. USB interface needs a PC. If you want to do programming/configuration without a PC (such as may be a case in the field), you'll also need an IR router and IR programmer.

Oooh, have I mentioned that for a clean CP2 installation it's best to have a 7-ch radio so you can use the 7th channel to switch it on/off from your Tx? Well, it's really possible from a 6-ch radio as well, just much more of a PITA...

That PITA that Jerry referred to is not that bad, but to be fair, he is right, it is so much easier with 7 channels.

Not sure what kit you've got, but for it to work properly, you need to either compromise with 6 channels, or ideally have 7.

If you only got the CP2, then you need more.

Cheers

hi guys. still without my own pc/laptop so using my fone or wifes laptop.i got both the main unit and the sensor unit, going to hunt down the vertical sensor unit this week. shorly I could use a channel perhaps a duel rates one which I never use anyway. but any advice is always welcome

ive mounted the infrared unit under the nose(under were my esc sits) using a high denisity foam spacer so its got a clear 360 deg view. its sits about half way down my skids so a slightly bumpy landing should be fine, but then ive been flying long enough to gently pop any size heli down without flexing the skids

Anthony,
the iR unit is only used to re-program the avionics computer, and is best placed on the side somewhere.. I only ever use it on the bench or on the car bonnet at the LMAF.. so it is usually side-on to me to take up less desk space when working on it. I does not matter where it is, as long as you can point the IR programmer at it when changing settings.. or checking status at pre-flight time..
good luck with setting it up.. I have ben using CPII for several years now and it has saved me hundreds of times.. i still manage to crash from time to time because..
1. flying when too cold and overcast..
2. flying too low , beyond your abilities
3. mechanical malfunction
