Default Metal head stiffer dampers?

Hi all:
I have found that the stock dampers (black) are way too soft, at they sure feel that way to me. I did disassemble the head and lubed up the feathering shaft and dampers. This got rid of vibrations, but caused the thing to be really mushy. If I do any hard movements at all, it either causes vibrations to set in or makes them go away, as if the feathering shaft is able to move side to side a little. It feels like you can do that too on the bench by pushing and pulling on the blades.

I was able to find the EK5-0386A that were black and looked the same as what's in there, from the pictures. I didn't buy any of these. I bought some EK5-0386B dampers, but they were black, too, and feel just as mushy as the ones it came with.

Are there any harder dampers available anywhere, or any other way to stiffen up the head?

Thanks!
Kent

I should add that I did somehow end up buying both the 0386A AND the 0386B. These were both in my spares box.

I can feel zero difference at all between these. They are both very soft rubber and feel exactly the same. They are both black, too.

I am a bit surprised that this hasn't been talked about before. I did search the forum. Maybe I didn't search right?

You want the red ones. My black ones got mashed after just a few hard flights. So much that the feathering shaft was touching the central hub. Way too soft.

Seems like maybe they were mislabeled yours, because as far as I know the upgraded ones only come in red and are about twice as stiff as the black ones.

Thanks Signal7.

That's good info. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any red ones. The mispackaged black ones came from BP and I haven't been able to find those anywhere else.

I guess I'll start trying to find a substitute from another heli or from some o-rings...

Try here: http://www.pegasushelisusa.com/store...or-Damper.html

You'll want to get in touch with them to make sure they have them. I've dealt with that company and they are awesome.

Thanks!
I didn't think to look there!
I have a set on order. I can't wait to see how that improves things!

Best,
Kent

Hi guy's
I purchased both the (0386a black) & (0386b red) from Lakeside helis and the
ones I got were both black and feel the same.
nothink like the red ones I picked up by luck which are quite solid compared
to the black one's.
I will keep an eye out for you.

fitzy.

Notice = Since writing the above I have contacted Lakeside heli's and Ron has now sent to me the last
packet of red damper rubbers for my esmart 600. There was a mistake when they were packed
so it allways pays to contact our supplyiers.
I hope that I have not caused any prob's.

Default Dampers

Hey Guys, Lakeside does not have anymore of the red dampers!! He also had some that were mislabeled and I got black ones the first time I ordered from him.. I called him and after checking his stock he found he had the black ones in the bags that should have had red. I did get a pair of the red ones from him but have not used them yet.. Someone, somewhere, maybe WhiteNight, tried them and found them to be too stiff and did not like them. What I've done is use two washers with the black ones and that helps some..This has been used on many helis and usally works well.

Try the logo 10 dampeners or the GAUI hurricane 550 dampeners. I also have been using the century swift 550 dampeners and they are good. At this point, I had a friend machine some red mountain bike shock elastomers and it makes the head very responsive but the down side is it will bend the feathering shft during hard pitch pumps. That's why I got all my feathering shaft heat treated.

Default shaft

Thats what I've been afraid of, bending the Feathering shaft in flight. It is such an animal!! I do have one pair of the red ones but I'm thinkin of using them on my "G"

I think the G-smart might require softer dampeners due to the slower head speed. A stiff dampener on the G might cause it to be unstable and wobble.

Default G Head Speed

I guess you might be right. However the head speed on my G is up from stock. I've replaced the motor with a HotRod OS and have yet to check what it is now. Really there is no way I know of to know for sure what it was before, stock. I guess if you were good at math and used a assumed speed of the stock motor you could come up with a number. I've just got a opti-tach so I will be able to check it in flight. But truthfully I really have no reason to think it has a slower HS than the "E"
Is there a reason you say that? Info on the "G" is a little hard to come by sometimes.
