add another to the list. mine is/was affected.
and, i'm not too sure about JR's fix either. routing the wires as suggested is simple. but, there's still some interpretation left as to exactly where the wires go from JR's small photos. what i discovered is that if i route the bundle so that the chaffed portion of the wire sits closer to the aileron gimbal as in their first photo.... the lower right portion (when looking at the photo) of the gimbal actually gets hung up on the wire at full deflection...so much so that there is added tension on the sticks near 100%. you can actually see in their own photo where the gimbal will pull on the wires. and, if i route the wire such that the gimbal does not interfere with the wire as in their 3rd photo from the top the chaffed portion is still extended out where the regulator chip can chafe. i've tried to route them so that there is neither binding on the gimbal nor chaffing on the chip. but, there's no way to tie down the wires with the recommended fix...there's still some wire freedom that will allow them to adjust over time. i'll be checking this again in a couple of weeks.

the side sliders and rubber thumb grips on the sides are prone to pop off, but they just slide back into their slots. there's also two connectors that need to be removed from the circuit board to remove the back cover completely. not mandatory to do but makes it a lot easier. really only a 5 minute project except for not being 100% sure that their mod will work.

It's just 6 phillip screws, I've open it several times to adjust the gimble tension. You just got to be careful of the battery wire that attached to the back of the case.

And the two side levers are a pain when you put it back together.

the wires are a lot smaller than the photos make them look. you'd be hard pressed to wrap anything around them.

Yep, took mine and Bob's apart and ours were pretty much the same. Black wire eaten 80% through.
I didn't want to use goop and wait for it to dry. My fix is pretty much like JimLerch except I also cut down the plastic on the gimble unit.

Did a check on my DSX9 last night. Lucky to say that there was not damage or any signs of abrasion on the wires. Anyway, I did the fix recommended by JR, and i'll check back in a few weeks time.

Just pulled mine apart, NO problem.
But I did mod it. I did what was to Goop the wire bundle to the gimble, so that it won't get out near the regulator. I will bevel the regulator also.

Well, I am glad to say my radio was just starting to show wear and had not gone through the insulation yet. So thanks so much... by the way, don't you think that the person that originally figured out the problem and posted should get a very nice limited edition jr 12x 2.4 or what ever new radio they are working on at the moment as a big fat thank you for not having to say sorry to the loads of people that would have lost aircraft's??
I think so.. I would like to see a pole... it would perhaps help spread the news as well.. and who knows someone might listen... Any way...Random person who found this out...I thank you, my wallet thanks you, and my wife I think may wish to thank you as well because she knows how much this stuff cost...LOL |

BTW I got an email from Horizon about the issue. Seems they are taking it VERY seriously.

Inspected mine and it was showing coper on the blue wire. No fray cables, used liquid tape from star brite and moved the cables like JR says. Will check in a few weeks and do the other mod (sanding the plastic culprit) and covering cables with shoe goo. Thanks for the heads up, it really saved a crash. Double O

[ATTACH]60029[ I checked my wiring. I could see were it was rubbing, but it was not worn thru. Since I had the radio open, I decided to fix it anyway. I carefully cut a slit on the top of the slotted part of the gimble, and slid the wires out. I then epoxied the free end of the wire to the back of the gimble, and zip tied the excess wire at the base of the PC board. The wire has plenty of slack for freedom of movement, and doesnt come near anything that could chaf it.
