Default How to open Align RCM-BL450MX motor?

Hey guys,

Today my Align RCM-BL450MX brushless motor died the good thing is that I was preparing for landing and could auto rotate.
What I am looking at now is to rewind it for a few some dollars or to buy another one for more dollars. As I am short in $, I will try to rewind it first (or not).
But the first problem I found was, how do I open this little motor? I didn't see any screw looking to inside. Do I just need to hammer the back of the motor? What should I do?
Thank for any advice.
Cheers

Not familiar with that motor but:

Many motor shafts of that size are press fit. Check to see if there is an E clip on the pinion side, and remove it. You can probably simply pull the outrunner part (can) off of the motor - They are usually held in place only by the magnets.

Unwinding a motor can be tough depending on how it was wound the first time. I've done this successfully before and it is a fun project.

Hi,
Why do you want to take it a part? You may do it but you might lose the press holding the shaft. All you need to do is hummer the shaft out. But don't do it. This motor loses the grip fast. I've lost a perfectly working motor cause I wanted to check its bearings. Don't open it.

His motor is already shot. No harm in opening it. If you are successful in rewinding, reassembling, and running the motor, you are only out the cost of the copper, and time. Go for it.

If you r going to do it you've got one shot with a hummer. Do it with press machine wd be better, but I'm only guessing.

I'd say save the rewind money and get a new motor. Those small motors don't worth the repair cause I'm not the first failing.

Thanks but the video didn't help much. I tried to hammer the shaft without success, even heating it with a heat gun.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers

Buy yourself a 1 ton arbor press from Harbor Freight

http://m.harborfreight.com/1-ton-arbor-press-3552.html

Place the motor upside down in the press, and push the shaft out with a small drift.

Oops, I see your in Australia, do they have Harbor freight stores there?

I still did not manage to open this motor
I have a press vice, but I'm still struggling to open it.
On the video above, it is a similar but not this exact motor. You can see it is a 3500kv motor, so I don't know.
I would like to hear some tips from who actually opened the stock Align motor for the 450DFC PRO.
I did not find a C clamp or an internal screw that holds the shaft.
Anyone please?

I haven't swapped an Align motor shaft but I have done quite a few swaps with other motor brands (Scorpions, Hackers, etc) . I used a drill press with a punch installed. It works great to slowly push out the shaft and is very easy to control the amount of pressure to help prevent screwing up the can.

I have an Align 460MX (3200KV) that I toasted last year failing to hit throttle hold in a crash. I was wanting to rewire it to, preferably to allow for a 22.2 volt system.

After hitting it with a punch & hammer for a few minutes I gave up.

I think a press is going to be needed to do this, without causing damage.

I have good news for you then. I did exactly what you have done (heat, hammer, etc), then I bought a press vice and gave it a go! In less than 5 minutes the shaft was off

Now I'm just waiting for the enamelled copper wire to arrive from China (bought 50m from AliExpress at $9.00)

Does anyone have good tips on how to rewind a small motor like this without messing up everything? What are the rules of thumb?

Thanks guys

my Align 3S- 450 motors killed the bec in 5 ESC, & 3 times the whole ESC, even a 60 amp one, plus a seperate 5 amp BEC, cost a number of crashes. Gave up & brough a scorpion motor same as they use in the warp's. wow, heaps over powered, runs cooler, smoother, more punch, less amps, quieter, was only $8 more than the align. worth every cent, 300 flights no issues, love it
