Default flybar vs. flybarless

Hello out there in the heli world. I am looking to get a new t-rex500. I am just trying to decide if I should go with a flybarless heli or not. I have heard that on flybarless helis, you need to get out of ground effect or the heli wants to roll. i have never flown flybarless before and dont want to risk loosing my machine to a costly crash. And I also would like to know if there is a big difference between flying with a flybar, or flying flybarless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the time to setup a fbl setup, with a computer, go the fbl. If not the grab the fb..
The fbl when setup write is a lot more stable. And less parts.. But is harder to setup IMO.

I don't know about any other FBL systems besides the V-Bar but I've never had any problems with mine. There is no comparison to when it had a flybar. Mine flies great! I've never had any problems with it wanting to roll or anything.......

Ditto for the CGY750...ridiculously easy to setup. In fact, with the default settings on the 5 built-in flight modes, it is literally and legitimately fly-able right out of the box.

I used to be a FB fan to bone... I gave in and converted the 500 with beast x and talk about a new helicopter. The thing will fly with little set up and with some tweaks it will kick butt. Its stable, but also super fast cyclic which you can't do with a FB machine. Thats what I love about it!

I can hover my 600 FBL a foot off the deck with no issue. I have no rolling either. FBL is the only way to go for me. There is more wires and stuff but well worth it. I have the Mikato v-bar now and like it...but moving up to the Skookum over the winter.

The tip over issues are usually setup based or occur because cyclic input is used before the heli takes off.

Once set up properly an FBL heli will spool up and lift almost by itself.

started with the 500esp 3G, had some issues and then she wanted to tilt on lift-off. I never bothered to learn to program the 3G.

Got a BeastX and all's well, the programming is very easy and I don't have tilting.

I stopped mid flip today and had it setting there for a good five seconds, seems like the beast was keeping it stable ? not sure if it will do so inverted ???
my gains are set stock, so there is some slight drift in upright hover..

I read where the beast willkeep you level during a piro, just not sure how or if it will do so while inverted ??

I recommend purchasing a stiff receiver tray / gyro tray, and mounting it there; below is an example. It's a bit old picture, as I nowadays use BeastX as a tail gyro only with a flybar. Setup is the same, but some fewer cables.

Swap you your BeastX for a Spartan Quark?

No thanks, I might make it FBL again at some point. Besides, BeastX makes an excellent tail gyro.

I mostly changed it to a tail gyro -only setup because of the numerous problems I had with 500 ESP producing vibrations which would cause BeastX to tilt the swash; however the fact is that I seem to prefer the flybar if there is little to moderate wind. The only downside is lower performance.

BTW, there's hot glue on the connectors on the receiver in my picture. Similarly BeastX has hot glue on the connectors, but there wasn't any when the pic was taken.

FBL is awesome, even for newbies like me. The tipover issue is mainly a setup thing, as the other said already. I bought a used Trex500 ESP 3G and assumed all I had to do was bind and fly like all the other Blade helis I have had. On the first spool up, it tipped over and killed a brand new set of $50 blades. After looking through the setup and reading the problems people have with the 3G, I decided to ditch it and get the Skookum Sk720. The heli flies beautifully now. The swash is rock solid and has absolutely no tendency to tilt on spool up, and the heli is super stable even without the self-leveling enabled. You will not be sorry for going FBL.

I just bought a blade 450 for a "beater" heli and am dreading messing with that stupid flybar, but I just couldn't resist the price.
